La Noria de la Aceña

A un km de la localidad malagueña de Cuevas Bajas teneis esta antigua noria de río justo en la Ribera del Genil

Para llegar hasta ella debeis atravesar un campo de olivos centenarios y más abajo , escondida entre la vegetación la vereis.

Esta noria está unida a un muro por el que se distribuye el agua por las diferentes huertas de la Vega del Genil a través de un  canal.

The last time I visited my father’s birthplace of #Hama (#حماة) was 10 years ago.⏳ Known for its many magnificent #norias / #waterwheels, these ancient engineering marvels carried #water throughout the city’s aqueducts & irrigation systems from the #Orontes (#العاصي) since time immemorial. I’m told that as a kid my father & his friends would dive off the rungs & swim in the #river after school ... When I was growing up here in America, it was hard enough getting people to figure out where #Syria was, let alone this little (#Biblical) city my paternal family has deep roots in; but these beautifully symbolic testaments to #Syrian ingenuity often were recognized in the annual #GuinnessWorldRecord book (remember those??) as the world’s oldest / largest & I somehow felt validated. Today I realize that kind of validation is frivolous when compared to the thousands of years of #history / #culture / #civilization they represent for me & my family. 🌍🌀🌏 #TBT. 📸 @lmajali
