I had a dream that ended with me sitting on a guy’s lap, like he was a mall Santa, and giving him a kiss on the cheek. That guy was Norman Tebbit, a 90-year-old British conservative politician. I woke up horrified.
"My Lords, would it not be a good idea if [we] resisted the mad idea of this House being dragged into this century? It is a very disagreeable century. Would it not be a better idea to drag us back into the 19th century, which in many ways was a much better one for this country?"
Norman Tebbit
Baron Tebbit, formerly Margaret Thatcher’s attack dog, writing in the Daily Telegraph. He’s got a long history of comparing the left to nazis, going back to the 70s when he called Labour minister Michael Foot a fascist, and more recently in the aftermath of the murder of Jo Cox.
When Conservatives claim the nazis were left wing, or compare individuals and movements on the left to them, they only believe this blatant gotcha because they want to believe it, because it serves their political agenda. Tories want to move the goalposts on what fascism means in order to weaponise the word nazi against trade unions, civil rights campaigners and other potential agents of social revolution. If fascism (like terrorism) means whatever you want it to mean, you can use this to radicalise people against your opponents. Like Boris Johnson, Tebbit knows what he says will make random acts of violence by the far right against BAME people and BLM supporters more likely.
i am suffering right now so i’m gonna spread the pain via this cursed thing i made where i drew 1980s british politicians as gals because of that au i came up with there it’s just a politics club and because i can’t draw adult men fo shizzle. all of them are based on the spitting image portrayals. cecil is wearing a schoolgirl outfit. what the fuck is this.
Még mindig azt nézed, ahonnan jöttél, vagy ahol vagy?
Norman Tebbit (Zadie Smith: Fehér fogak)
"We British have a thousand year history of self-government. We have been free and democratic longer than any other nation. The European Union is too diverse, too bureaucratic, too corporatist and too centralist to be a functioning democracy."
Norman Tebbit
