Redraw of this MitM gif but with Norns
Been thinking a bit about the "healer has the bloodiest hands" but through the lens of community and Sanne. She isn't a healer in a classical sense but a healer in a more metaphorical sense:
1. Her skaald identity as healing the community's tradition and narratives it tells itself and its members by shaming and purging its less desirable elements.
Which invites the questions: who decides what's desirable and what isn't? Who decides what level of "moral disease purging" is enough? Who decides what is tradition at all? And what if you discover new diseases while doing so?
This is especially interesting for individualistic yet communally-oriented norn culture and for Sanne as an ambitious, traditionalist norn in this framework.
2. Her hunter identity as a healer of the beliefs and again, traditions of the community. She is a hunter not just in a sense of hunting animals but also head-hunter, hunter of Svanir, as is Eirene. In Sanne's eyes, she is healing the community of less desirable groups like the Svanir but then again we see them being tolerated at the very least in Hoelbrak, center of the norn!
Key questions: who decides who is undesirable and who isn't? Who decides whether a certain group is worthy of safety and existence?
Once again, we have to see Sanne as a traditionalist norn, whose social status is equivalent to nobility, in deeds as well as lineage. In that respect, Sanne is very privileged.
So yes! Healer has the bloodiest hands but a metaphorical interpretation 🥰 that raises moral questions 🥰
HELLO FROM THE NORNS!!! Cerebrum and Bornie, I just love them two much. It's nice to see Cerebrum (the green one) so happy about something that isn't UNETHICAL SCIENCE, though Bornie technically was born through science. But I'm not sure where her egg came from. Was it left over from the scariest norns of all before they DIED? Or did Cerebrum somehow asexually reproduce? I don't think so, I think kisspopping is kind of required in norn lore, but Cerebrum doesn't have time for that! AROACE KINGTHING!! SCIENCE CAN FIND A WAY!! Either way, there's a leftover defective egg, and when incubating it under a light doesn't work the warmth of being carried by Nick in a baby carrier for months seems to do the trick! What a special girl! Norns as a species ReBorn! Hence the name Bornie!
Commissioned @beelzeebub of Goncharov fame to draw Skuld saying Dewey's famous line “The future is now, old man!”
Fanart of Skuld (Verthandi in the Middle) by Abydos, per my request
Inktober Day Twenty-Nine: Urd, Belldandy, and Skuld (counterclockwise) from Aa! Megami-sama/Oh My Goddess drawn in my shot at the Hilda art style.
Edit: Now in full colour
Skuld, Norn of the Future. Complete with digital guitar, hoverboard, her cat and seal plushies, and the biggest amplifier. The noisier the better. Late teens, hates never being allowed to grow up due to embodying the concept of the Future. Feels Urth babies her too much but likes getting stuff from her, think Verthandi's totally lame.
You can read Verthandi in the Middle on Tumblr and Sufficient Velocity
Coloured-in poster pastiche of Field of Dreams with Verthandi. Don’t know why I put the two together, other than I’d been listening to the movie’s soundtrack. I’m thinking pastiches of posters in general could help with studying poses, design, anatomy, and also clothing folds
