WORLDBUILDING!!
Noroiru Geography
The planet of the Noroiru is a place of great contrast. Only a small slice of the entire planet is inhabitable at any one time, and the land is constantly changing due to the forces of heating and cooling. Earthquakes are prevalent around the globe and extreme weather tends prevails on the light side of the planet.
The differences in air pressure created by constant heating of the light side and constant cooling of the dark side mean that wind is almost always flowing from the dark side. This is less pronounced in the dawn quadrant because of the Coriolis effect, making the weather of that quadrant significantly more variable.
On the dark side, lakes and rivers that formed during the tempestuous summer cool to freezing temperatures very quickly, breaking the ground. It gets so cold on the far side of the planet that some of the ice sublimates. Very little precipitation falls on this side of the planet, and what water is sucked into the atmosphere by the dry air is whisked away by the sunward wind. The only clouds you will usually see on this side are cirrus and noctilucent clouds.
As usual for a rocky planet with ice and such a variable climate, the poles have permanent ice caps, but these are eaten away significantly during the summer, contributing to the creation of large seas and lakes in the more temperate zones. Most of the water on the planet is contained in the atmosphere, and strong storms rage on the summer side of the planet, fueled by the superheated surface and inflow of wind from the dark side.
The creatures that make this planet their home have developed several ways of coping with these extremes. Some lay dormant throughout the dark winter, only to emerge in the spring with renewed life. Some have developed very mobile lifestyles to suit the stormy summer side of the planet. These include plants that grow in rafts, attaching themselves to whatever rocks they find, and which are very flexible like palm trees and grasses, to withstand the strong winds of the storms. The most stable areas, climate-wise, are the poles, but most of the life on the planet can be found in the highly variable tropical regions.
Worldbuilding June
I have 4 general worlds/peoples I could work on.
The Noroiru: A race of tribal plant people on a planet with scorching days and freezing nights.
The Bogiwazl: A race of aliens who are at about the early 1800′s level of technology
The Sentesca: A race of small blue aliens who love science. They have “giant mechas” which are ... human sized.
The Monsterverse: You can’t be human. (I wonder how much more I could build into this anyway)
I have plans to feature the first three in REM. Which one do you want to see more about?
