he  was  joking,    of  course.    but  nothing  in  his  tone  gave  that  away.    perhaps,    if  jon  looked  closely,    he  would  be  able  to  pick  out  the  glint  in  howl’s  eye,    or  the  slightest  crinkle  in  the  corner,    but  he  forced  the  rest  of  it  down  until  it  was  nothing  at  all  &.    t̲u̲r̲n̲e̲d̲ ̲ ̲t̲o̲ ̲ ̲m̲a̲k̲e̲ ̲ ̲h̲i̲s̲ ̲ ̲w̲a̲y̲ ̲ ̲t̲o̲ ̲ ̲t̲h̲e̲ ̲ ̲h̲e̲a̲r̲t̲h̲.    calcifer  was  very  clearly  looking  at  him  with  two  very  obvious  eyes.

         IT HAD NOT BEEN HER CHOICE to reverse death itself  &  pull jon snow back from the darkness that had taken him. melisandre did nothing of her own accord. she was but a servant to her god,  &  r’hllor’s will was absolute. & unlike oft before, this time, his wishes had been undeniable. in life or death, the bastard boy was little more than his tool ( as were they all ), but it seemed that the lord of light had determined that jon snow served his purpose better alive.  or rather, reborn.  she held a torch high aloft as she made for his chamber, its flames lashing out to chase the shadows back into the corners where they belonged. it was the only weapon she carried; the only one she needed.                                                                  when she reached the door, she rapped her knuckles on the wood to warn him of her presence before she entered. but when she saw the boy, her breath caught in her throat, her ruby necklace growing warm against her pulse. only days ago he had been a corpse, pale  &  stiff  &  cold to the touch. but now his eyes were alert  &  bright  &  trained carefully on her as she entered the room. such was the power of r’hllor. this was his work,  & it never failed to bring her a sense of awe.

The night air was lashing out against any glimpse of skin, rughtless and unforgiving. The snow was in the air, and it clung to garb. He had not been here long, but the weather trully left much to be desired. Even in the mornings, the cold made it horribly difficult to enjoy anything, not even the weak sunlight provided much light or warmth, proving to be a mare mockery or illusion of what a sunny day might look like. “ Hope is dangerous, it does wonders on men. Some wear it as protection, a promise of sorts. Others lose any sense of self preservation and die by its sword. ” 

Hope was only useful if combined with some realism, but he was certain, to an extent that the man next to him had a solid head on his shoulders. The other men, he was not sure. “ Should we wenture out later today, or has the plan changed. I mean it will be dnagerous, we will probably be attacked. Some will die, or wish they did. But staying here for too long feels counterproductive. ” He spoke as if none of these things are issues he was particulary concerned about, more so stating facts that were somewhat amusing. A mask needed to be in place, for now. Revealing to much is giving any future enemies a clear path to your weak points, and that much he wanted to avoid. “ What do you say Jon Snow? ”

there is a certain warmth that fills sandy halls  ────── a warmth far different than dorne’s signature heat, one that seems to hum at her skin instead of stick, and flush her cheeks with an lively blush in place of the feverish glow that would have been sure to follow her hastened steps... how long had it been since such joy had filled sunspear’s towering walls? ― since the gardens sang songs other than beauty and charm, but in welcome...
