Episode 95: Pumping yourself on the sofa.
You want eclectic. We deliver.
Our Deeply Unintelligent™ AI units have digested the internet and spend an hour talking about a whole load of utter nonsense: Camping, depression, 3D resin printers, Blender, Bocage, Lemmie, Mindhunter, Creative constipation, Inktober, District 9, Alan Moore, Vanta black cars, Boots, John Harris, Dieter Rams, London Design Festival. And pies.

Hi all. We haven’t stopped podcasting, but we did kind of forget we had a Tumbr account. Sorry.
Quite a bit’s happened since we last posted here - another 54 episodes for a start. We’ve also moved our podcasting hosting (among a bunch of other technical changes), and we now have a proper website with show notes and everything.
Have a look over at https://north-v-south.co.uk if you fancy catching up.

Episode 41 - Show Notes
This week the podcast welcomes its first ever guest: Mr Aled Lewis. Aled is an illustrator and designer based in London. Aled talks about his career so far and how he got started in the creative industry.
There’s not much time for news this week but the boys look at the end of the Pick Me Up show, Jessica Hische’s automated response generator and the BBC program about the graphic designer with Parkinson’s. Is it dusty in here? There’s something in my eye.
Christmas presents: What’s on the wish-list, what not to buy and what the chaps think are great gifts for your loved ones (that deep down you secretly covet for yourself.)
Pies this week came from Betty’s in Yorkshire, courtesy of the very lovely Hannah Wilson. North V South records the world’s (possibly) very first Mince Pie Consumption Simulcast™.

Pies…
Our pies this week were sent to us from Betty’s by the lovely Hannah Wilson. We all thought they were pretty damn good, Rob and Aled scoring them a strong 8, and Jon marking a 7 due to a wonky star.

Episode 24 - Show Notes
Konnichiwa! We’re back! Did you miss us? No, we didn’t think so.
We chat about Airbnb’s new design studio, Brighton’s new eye(sore), Rob talks wistfully about his old tutor while Jon tries out Adobe’s Portfolio.
Our book of the month is In Praise of Shadows by Junichiro Tanizaki. We discuss the book deep in bosky contemplation, while perched upon Japanese toilets.
The serenity is rudely broken by the arrival of Jon’s stonking pea and ham pie and Rob’s bum-tingling chilli pork pie, kindly donated by one of our listeners.
Jon and Rob have both bought a poster by Mike Sullivan of Studio Mister.

Book of the month
In Praise of Shadows by Jun Ichiro Tanizaki
The text presents personal reflections on topics as diverse as architecture and its fittings, crafts, finishes, jade, food, cosmetics and mono no aware (the art of impermanence). Tanizaki explores in close description the use of space in buildings, lacquerware by candlelight, monastery toilets and women in the dark of a brothel. The essay acts as "a classic description of the collision between the shadows of traditional Japanese interiors and the dazzling light of the modern age."

Pie review
Rob’s pie this week was hand delivered by Kate Weston, one half of WDC Studio. Stuart raved about this pie and offered to send me one - who am I to refuse? Washed down with a pint of Adnam’s Broadside, Rob’s pie was an Adams & Harlow Red Devil Pie. A pork pie with a hint of chilli - it scored a strong 7 out of 10
Jon’s pie was a pea and ham hock from Harriot’s in West Meon. It was accompanied by a bottle of Mr Whitehead’s Heart of Hampshire cider. A deserving 8 out of 10!
