Out of curiousity, what would be the downsides of having a hole in the nose bridge (like a hole that causes the inside to be seen from outside) other than aesthetic
(Not saying there aren't, I'm just curious on what they'd be. Hopefully, this is an ok ask, sorry if not)
Depends on where it's located on the nose bridge, how big the hole is, and where the nose is located on the face (ie; if it's close to the eyes.)
Here are some things I've gathered from a mix of experiences I've read (keep in mind, this all depends on the size and location of the hole, smaller holes may cause less noticeable symptoms):
-Breathing problems (difficulty inhaling or exhaling, shortness of breath, etc). Sometimes there's even an issue of too much air, if the hole is large enough, and the breeze is directly pushing into the hole. I've also seen a few people mention covering their nose hole with a gauze while they sleep, as to avoid their throat drying out, because the air leads directly into their throat from the hole.
-Difficulty around water (ie; showers, baths, pools, etc). People may cover their nose during washes, or angle their head, as to avoid water flooding their nose and drowning them. (Water also tends to give a burning sensation, like when you accidentally inhale water up your nose.)
-Difficulty around sandy beaches or dusty locations. Same as the water reason - don't want to get sand/dust in their nose and throat. There's a lot of factors to consider with this trait. Putting on makeup, for example, might take more preciseness or caution, as to avoid dust getting in the nose. Wearing a gauze while doing makeup might be preferred.
-Sensitivity to the breeze, especially if it's cold. People with holes in their nose might wear a mask or gauze to prevent the air from getting in, because it's uncomfortable, painful, and/or dries out their nose. (Dry noses can also cause nosebleeds.)
-Nasal pain or headaches, feelings of congestion, and lots of crust/grime building up in the nose (which can cause random nosebleeds from irritation, the inside of the nose is very sensitive, so the crust would agitate the walls of the nose.)
-A whistling sound when breathing (not necessarily a downside and moreso just a characteristic.) It might also change how a person sounds when they speak, giving a more nasally voice.
-A partial or complete loss of smell (hyponosmia or anosmia.)
-Dry/irritated eyes (if the hole in the nose is close to the eyes, and is blowing air into them.)
