Day 5 #HotAmmoniteAugust - Nostoceras
Nostoceras is probably one of the most interesting ammonites on the list imo, a teenie suspension feeder that twirled around when descending into the water column, what's not to love???
Time for the monthly drawing recap!
In this month:
- while a storm brews above, Louise is caught in the middle of a group of Cameroceras taking refuge on the surface
- David and Frida, out on a swim together, find a group of Nostoceras that had been dragged into a corner of the fjord by the currents
- a Mononykus finds a possible meal while Twig and Hilda watch... and the bellkeeper questions his existence
- Alfur and Adeline are caught between a Suminia closing in for an opportunistic lunch and a long way down
- in a hidden corner of the harbor, Hilda finds one small flock of great auks, with one pair having a chick to raise
a day late for Mermay but Prehistoric Planet hit some creative inspiration so have some funky ammonite merpeople
Look what I have aahhhhhhh!!!! @thylacines-toybox !!!
Life of our Prehistoric Planet: Nostoceras sp.
how do we know Nostoceras wasn't just some deformed specimen
it doesn't even look like a normal functional animal
because we have so many fossils of them! it's a numbers game
HOW DOES NOSTOCERAS EVEN EAT OR SWIM OR DO LITERALLY ANYTHING
IT'S FACE IS SHOVED INTO ITS OWN BUTT
There's an iiiiiiity bitty living space there for plankton to filter in. I know, it sounds fake, but its true
