You have to remember that his low self esteem doesn’t come from his mind. It’s quantifiable, and something everyone constantly reminds him of. He’s actions aren’t BECAUSE of his low self esteem, but in defiance of it.

And 77… where I bet this claim comes from… Kou’s desperation for Mitsuba is 100% triggered by Tsukasa. He’s witnessed multiple times what Tsukasa has done to Mitsuba, and is frightened of it continuing.

You have to read these kind of inverted, since it’s the Red House projecting Kou’s desires.

We can infer from this that Kou feels like he can’t go on without Mitsuba, and that he wants those feelings to be mutual. I’d be calling it unhealthy if he hadn’t lost Mitsuba for the third time now.

“You’re all that I have.” Kou is PETRIFIED that Mitsuba will go to Tsukasa for help/comfort/affection. Tsukasa has intentionally angled himself as Kou’s romantic rival, and it’s worked. Romantic rival as in that he’s worried Mitsuba’s gonna run off with him? No. But in the slimy way that he can’t think about Tsukasa without imagining his grubby little hands all over his precious Mitsuba.

This is Kou’s main struggle I think. He knows that saving Mitsuba isn’t the most important issue right now. But Kou can’t help but prioritizing it… knowing damn well it’s out of his own desire for Mitsuba. What we’re seeing is an expression of that.

Overall I avoid diagnosing characters with clinical terms because I think it’s easy to muddle them up… but from my reading…….. no.

I feel like cancel culture gets talked about a lot more than, like, is relevant to the small spectrum of people for whom it really means anything. 

Like, I feel like the amount of, like, internet fame/clout necessary to be, like, noticed enough to be #cancelled in the first place, to the amount that said backlash is immaterial to your everyday life, is like, SUCH a narrow window.

The term originated on Tumblr, and I feel like that’s the only place where it’s really like........ a thing. Because the the programming of the platform itself is hostile to context and growth. Like, say you make a post with some dumb shit in it, and someone calls you out on it. Ideally, you learn from it, you grow, and you do better. But on Tumblr, that might not mean anything to people’s perception of you. You could make a complete 180, but even if you change your tune, apologize, even delete the post, do ALL the right things, people can still circulate an endlessly replicating version of the post where none of that applies. Where all the bad stuff you said gets repeated again and again and again, regardless of how you feel about it now.

And like, that’s shitty. Cyber-bullying and anon hate and all that stuff, like, I’m not pretending that stuff doesn’t happen and doesn’t hurt people. But like, even if you’re in that position, you can still just, like... remake your tumblr, and have a clean slate. (And even if it follows you to your new one, like, at least you won’t see the notes on it and at worst you’ll be on a couple block lists.) Or you can just like, not use tumblr anymore.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

But like I said, all this only matters on tumblr. Occasionally tumblr/cancel culture will rub elbows with the real world, and it always always shows the limitations of its grasp. For example, LOTS of people post on photoshoots of Ezra Miller with like, “Yeah he’s hot but like also he made a documentary glorifying Mike Brown’s murderer? #cancelled” and yeah, some folks who don’t research beyond a cursory google search, if at all, will be like, ‘Oh snap, I didn’t know.” BUT, someone will inevitably be like, “No you dumb shits, it’s about what a fucking liar he is, stop attacking queer jewish men and sajdndfvbfdjv jdf..........“

And how does this affect Ezra Miller? I’m guessing that if it does at all, it’s not all that much.

Why? Because none of this shit matters outside of the internet. You can get rightly #cancelled for the most heinous of shit and it has no material consequences whatsoever. Woody Allen is a pedophile and that old bitch still won’t fucking die is getting to write for movies and shit! David Bowie had sex with a 14yo girl. Elvis MARRIED one. Hell, the fucking President is a child rapist.

My point isn’t that child sexual assault is alarmingly common from celebrities (though it is,) it’s that you can still enjoy WILD amounts of success even after committing some of the worst sins humanity is capable of. And like, fuck, even when people DO suffer some real world consequences, it usually doesn’t slow these fucks down for long. Nick Robinson is still making fucking videos, and if being a fucking polygon video editor is all the clout it takes to ignore #cancel culture, like, how much of a problem is it really?

Like, we got word that the staff at channel awesome, on top of being douchebags, actively helped keep quiet the stories of victims being groomed as minors by one of their former (because that fucker is dead) creators. There was a huge movement of people talking about what shit they are. What happened, after a handful of their creators abandoned ship? Not fucking much. They’re still there, and they’re still making videos.

That’s ALL that this is, that’s all the power that cancel culture has; a minor loss in profit from those better informed. That’s it. And like, if you ask me, all this hand-wringing for the profit margins of people richer than you or I will ever be just doesn’t feel like a good use of anyone’s time.
