Something I've noticed while running @this-is-fatphobia is how often people are unsure of their own experiences, to the point where they're afraid and uncertain that they can call what they've been through "fatphobia"
It's not unique to this blog, however. I've seen it on many of the "this-is" blogs. Dare I say I've seen it on every blog that speaks about oppression and bigotry.
Of course I think asking questions is necessary, and I never want people to stop asking questions and having conversations. There are amazing conversations to be had, and these open the door.
I just find it incredibly sad when someone worries that their experience wasn't "severe enough" to label as hate when often times, these scenarios where people ask are utterly cruel or heartbreaking.
On one hand, if it makes you feel better, do not stop yourself from expressing this doubt. I will always be happy to reassure those of you who aren't sure.
On the other hand, I think it speaks to a bigger issue of people who are facing discrimination feeling as if they don't deserve to talk about it, or as if they cannot be a part of the conversation just because it may be "less severe" than others. There will always be someone who has it worse. It doesn't mean your suffering no longer exists.
