I don't understand why orientation has to somehow correlate with appearance. Living in a conservative country where "LGBT propaganda" is banned, you realize that there's no way you could recognize someone from the LGB alliance. Because orientation is not about badges, clothing, or hairstyles; it's not even about politics or religiosity. It's about who you are oriented towards.
I was utterly surprised when I found out that my female friend, who has super-internalized misogyny and a super Christian background, started dating a girl. And they really were dating.
The most homophobic heterosexuals can make gay jokes.
Because orientation is not about behavior, social image, or appearance; it's about orientation.
That's why in my country "propaganda" is banned, because it's impossible to identify a gay person unless they start talking about it.
