i fucking loved it.
that is very good to hear, like i really felt like i would have seen more people talking about it for better or worse i guess, but like MAN that was a ride. like idk it was a really fun movie until it started stabbing me in the heart repeatedly and by the end i was bleeding out on the floor thanking it as it walked away.
So Paralyzed by The Cardigans is my end-all-be-all Hannigram song. It's got this dark, eerie feel to it and the lyrics are literally perfect.
"Oh, it's a strange desire
you can not lie
that's a needless fight
This is where your sanity gives in
and love begins"

Martha left because she valued her self-worth and self-esteem over the Doctor’s childishness. Just as Clara values her existence and life experiences over the Doctor’s way of life. I literally don’t understand how one is better than the other.
Wait. I got it now. Just to be clear, I am not, in any way, comparing the companions themselves. I'm comparing the narrative they are given in their separation from the Doctor.
The point is that, maybe with the exclusion of "I love you from the deepest of my heart but I'll gladly take a near-clone thanks" (which I frankly found embarrassingly shallow of the writer), all separations have been in some way due to something either straight up forcing the companion away (Rose and Donna) or making the choice to keep travelling with the Doctor unbearable (Martha and Amy).
What I found refreshing with Clara is that she was given a real neutral choice. Griefstricken as she was about Danny, his death had little to do with the Doctor himself or his influence on her (which is probably the only good side of making him die in such a stupid way, pre-cyberman death I mean). She had achieved a lot travelling with the Doctor, she had grown and she had been given recognition, though in the very peculiar way the Doctor expresses such feelings. She had a lot of reasons to stay with the Doctor and very few reasons to leave (if any).
And this is what, to me, makes that choice so much more interesting.
(and I'm sorry if I made it sound like I was criticizing the characters, especially Martha)
