@townofcadence 💜 Artair and all the other characters that Tristan has - like Jace! - are great and I've enjoyed reading over their profiles and just learning about the town of Cadence in general. Lots of love and care has clearly been put into their creation and development.

He opened his mouth a couple of times and… Well, nothing came out. Fucking nothing. Just a creak. A crack of something that tried to come out and couldn't. The complete shock of Sigma not remembering that evening in his old kitchen was the worst outcome of seeing him again; at least, with remembering, they could wrap it up with a bow and close that chapter. On even terms. Suddenly, Virote could smell the decay of limp, white roses and the stink of hydrangea long wilted. It hit him again.

And, boy, did it feel bad—he was sitting in that kitchen, again.

The countertops looked mauve. They hadn't been that color in years.

Virote blinked and rubbed his eyes ( it was too bright, all of a sudden; made his head hurt. ) Then, he fixed his face and smiled. Or, something like that. That smile was doing a lot of hard carrying for the god damn flashback he was sitting in. ❝... Forget it. I'm just being weird, again.❞ He reached up and toyed with an earring. The second hoop on the right—he had to keep his hands busy and try to look normal. Look normal! Be normal, now! Don't you burst into tears now, you absolute dickhead! That's what the little voice in his head was screeching. Over and over and over and over and—

❝Anyway, I'm glad you're, you know… Like, doing real swell. Good to hear about Di. I should, uh. Invite her out for coffee or something. Catch up. I've been… Texting Phi. We had a project we worked on.❞ That project had been all over the news for causing complete pandemonium, but that was just another topic for another day. ❝So, like, how long are you gonna be around? We could do something fun, if you wanna. I can bring my cats to your crib, let them meet your cats. I got two more since the last time we spoke. They're upstairs, I can go get them. Kikimora will be, like, super duper excited to see you, yeah?❞ He felt sick.

Atieno occasionally did visit a few lectures, a few readings - trying to get a good sense of the kind of research being done in varying locations. Coming out of this latest discussion, they were still running through their notes, there's so much they could have told the speaker, but they didn't want to draw too much notice to themself.

The way that they often stood out just by showing to these places was plenty enough reason not to make more of a fuss if they didn't have to.

While they were deciding where their next stop was going to be - they wanted to at least pose a question to a nearby fellow guest.

"What did you think of the talk? I thought it was interesting, clearly the speaker has some experience and yet left room for further explanations. Guess there's always so much for people to research."

Keeps things interesting, they guessed.

Zora gives a knowing nod, genuinely pleased that someone had recognized one of their personal favorite artists.

"Oh yeah. I'm a big fan of hers.. honestly been following her work for a while." It was while they were trying to get a physical copy of this album that they encountered someone seemingly interested in her work.

"Chances are there has to be another copy around here - I know they usually have at least a couple around for her. " The mention of the tiny desk has them giving another small hum.

"I definitely remember that Tiny Desk. It was a wonderful performance. And that collaboration album was rather enjoyable to me. But honestly.. it's so hard to go wrong with her. In terms of where you should start though...?"

Z runs back through the memories of albums that they had collected and listened to on repeat. "I mean.. I really liked her first work Esperanza. And 12 Little Spells is a common album to get into her. I found myself listening to her even more around Emily's D+Evolution - so that might be an album I'd like people to check out. I remember having her track Judas in my head for days after I first heard it."

Sigma knew him as a wide-eyed optimist that fell down a flight of stairs every time he tried to speak up. Timid and shy and withering. That didn't exist. Not now; that version of Virote would never exist ever again. ❝It's been a long time. What's up? I haven't spoken to you since, well. You know. You know. Are you doing well? You look... tenmyouji, dio, and chiaki part ways after a murmured conversation that sigma likely couldn’t help but overhear; tenmyouji’s expression in particular is dark, as he stalks off toward the infirmary. chiaki’s countenance, meanwhile, bears a heavy sadness that seems to physically weigh her down.

after lingering for another few seconds, she turns. it’s clear her mind isn’t quite in the right place when, with her eyes downcast, she blunders directly into sigma, who’s still conversing with phi. the girl doesn’t even seem to notice the obstacle in her path at first. then she glances up, and quickly backpedals.

“a-ah... sorry.” she’s being overly cautious as she fiddles with the strings of her hoodie, unable to look them both in the eye. she has a distinct feeling she may have creeped them out earlier, when she was able to pull their names seemingly out of thin air. she’d been unable, or unwilling, to explain then. how could she explain? they’d just call her crazy.

a self-conscious, tight smile forces its way onto chiaki’s face as she averts her gaze. “i guess... we have a bit of time before the next doors open. what are you two planning on doing with it...?”
