Totally, never going to happen, but it would be glorious idea for the opener of Season 9: Two parter opening. Episode One - low stakes emergencies, lots of jokes and banter, everyone is working great as a team under Captain Han. Everything is awesome...but ever so slightly off. You can't quite put your finger on it. It's the angle of the shots. The coloring of the scenes. The same news clip is playing on every TV when one is shown, but you can never quite make out what they're talking about. We see that Buck and Tommy are back together. There's no discussion about how that happened. It just is. All the mains are happy and healthy - we get little snippets of everyone at home having fun with their family. Everyone talks about going to the team barbeque this weekend. When Buck and Tommy arrive, it's at the new house that Bobby and Athena built. Athena opens the door to let them in and show them through to the backyard. Everyone else is already gathered there...including Bobby at the grill. Buck doesn't blink an eye at this. Tommy falters for a moment, but rallies. The rest of the barbeque continues to have little moments like that - tidbits of information that are incorrect, that Tommy catches, but no one else does. The TV is playing the news again in the living room as they're living. There's a quick soundbite about a crash. Buck and Tommy pull into the driveway of a cute little bungalow. They head inside together. This is their new house. They settle in on the couch in the living room and Tommy puts the TV on. The same news clip again, this time you hear the newscaster talking clearly about a crash and then something about the LAFD, but Buck starts kissing Tommy, taking the remote out of his hand and turning off the TV. Smash cut to them snuggling in bed, Buck nearly asleep, but Tommy lying there with his eyes wide open. He asks Buck when they got back together. Buck wakes up enough to frown at him and ask what he's talking about. Tommy says after we broke up, how did we get back together? What happened? When did we get back together? Buck laughs a little, snuggling back in, says he doesn't know what Tommy's talking about. They never broke up. He and Tommy have been together forever. That's all Buck's ever wanted. Was for Tommy to be with him. Stay with him. "Stay with me Tommy. Please, stay with me." echoes and the scene fades, coming back in to a new scene, a proper 9-1-1 looking scene with Buck sitting beside Tommy's bedside while Tommy's broken, battered, and definitely in a coma. He's begging Tommy to stay with him. The rest of the team is out in the waiting room, looking like hell, while the newsclip we've seen glimpses of plays on the TV up on the wall, talking about a downed LAFD helicopter. End of episode one. Episode two would backtrack and show how things REALLY are now, with everyone coping as best they can with their new normal. Buck and Tommy circling each other, but then the helicopter crash happening. The 118 being on scene and them having to save Tommy. Lots of delicious drama for everyone. Bit of Tommy in a coma time. Maybe some fights between people because of the tension. Then Tommy wakes up and we get a love declaration and a smooch. End of episode two and we carry on from there. I just think it would be neat!
