Vivien immediately turned around, barely bothering to wipe away the tears away, yet as soon as she had made eye contact with her friend ( God, how long had it been since she last saw him?) her cheeks reddened, embarrassed at him seeing the state she was in. Her dressing room was in complete disarray - papers torn up, her new bottle of Joy perfume shattered on the floor, clothes scattered in all corners of the room! Even her beloved photograph of Larry, which had been in a silver frame, was now torn to pieces, the frame hurled at the mirror with all of her strength.
She immediately collapsed onto her chair, exhausted by her sudden, terrifying breakdown. Vivien had been sure that her manic episodes wouldn’t return for a while, somehow, after spending quite a while in a psychiatric hospital following the nightmarish episode in Ceylon. Yet, today, it seemed that all of her hopes of leading a normal life again had been dashed to pieces, not unlike the current state of her mirror.
