i think so, so much about thrawn giving up everything he knew and loved, everything familiar and comfortable, to venture into the core territories in an attempt to sway the empire’s power in favor of the ascendancy, in the hope he could save his people from a powerful threat. the worst part is not knowing if his gamble will pay off - or if his story will be cut short without a positive and satisfying resolution to the ascendancy protection arc. the best thing we can hope for is that his original creator is consulted for any story decisions made regarding this wonderful and multifaceted character ♥
I can finally share my contribution for the Thrawn: Of Mitths and Legends zine. ^^ The leftover sales are currently happening so this is your last chance to get the zine or the cool Thrawn merchandise if you missed them earlier. But the supplies are very limited! thrawnzine.gumroad.com/ There is some symbolism to the elements you see here and their placing, and a number of small easter eggs for the fans who are familiar with those, but rather than pointing them out I'll let you interpret it the way you see it.
Zahn's Star Wars novels practically shaped my love of Star Wars. While the original Trilogy was of course the basis of my love, Zahn's understanding of the characters' motivations and individual voices within the story brought everything to a new level. He treated these characters with the respect and care they deserved. He also introduced new characters that shaped and inspired years of Star Wars legends content. Not least of which was Thrawn. To leave Zahn out of the process of depicting his own character is a huge mistake. At the very least, he should be consulted.

some thrawn headcanons
with some thranto of course because i couldn't resist
Thrawn is trans and he has a crate of packers that Eli labeled "The Cockbox"
Thrawn is constantly getting messages and deals from hygiene product companies asking if he'll do an ad campaign for them
Thrawn plays Minecraft with Eli and they always implement these weird rules like "no jumping" to make the game harder
Thrawn got his holonet privileges taken away for a week when he was flirting with Eli and said the word "bussy"
Thrawn listens to Queen because he is a man of good taste
Thrawn loves watching Bob Ross painting tutorials because of how great his art is and how he never truly makes errors
Thrawn and Eli went on a humanitarian mission where Thrawn said they would be visiting "the strongest warriors in the galaxy." Eli didn't know what he meant by that until they landed next to a hospital and Eli realized that they were visiting officers who couldn't work because they had cancer
I just bought Thrawns most precious possession from Earth! Lol
“Never talk to me or my son ever again.”
#NoThrawnWithoutZahn, a long post
I don’t think modern Star Wars fandom would exist as it does if Timothy Zahn’s original Thrawn Trilogy had not been a thing. Now, I mostly have to rely on older fans to tell it like it was back in 1991 because at that time I was only 7 (I am, in fact, just shy of 7 years older than Thrawn himself). I wouldn’t discover Star Wars for another 5 years, when my friends wanted to have a group theme to our Halloween costumes and were HORRIFIED that I had never seen Star Wars. They sent me home with their VHS copies of the original trilogy (the pre-Special Edition version) and the rest is history. Sort of.
By all accounts, Star Wars fandom in 1991 was pretty quiet and kind of flagging. There had been no new official content for 8 years. Of course there were still Star Wars fans but there wasn’t much new for them to work with.
And then came Heir to the Empire in 1991, and to make a long story short, was followed by dozens upon dozens of additional materials (including additional works by Zahn about Thrawn and the Chiss). Thrawn became a massively popular and beloved Star Wars character.
I believe that George Lucas would have eventually released the prequels and possibly also his own sequels, with or without Thrawn and the rest of the Expanded Universe/Legends. But I think the size, scope, and liveliness of Star Wars fandom today owes a huge debt to Timothy Zahn and his Thrawn books. There were always going to be people who became and remained Star Wars fans on the strength of the movies alone. But there were always going to be people like me, who became Star Wars fans because of the movies but STAYED because of everything else. Star Wars is a massive sandbox with something to offer almost everyone, but it’s that way because there is so much of it beyond the movies.
This isn’t a discussion about whether or not Thrawn is a villain, a good guy, morally right, worthy of a redemption arc, LGBT+, neurodivergent, etc. Those are all interesting and valuable discussions to have, and fans (and content creators) can and should have them. But this isn’t about any of that. It’s about one simple thing: that Timothy Zahn, an author whose work has had such a massive impact on this fandom, should be consulted when his character is used. #NoThrawnWithoutZahn.
