Day 31: Blue
Today’s happy thing:
My happy thing came a little late today, my dudes. I have tried to keep a positive attitude through everything, and I am an enternal optimist. But today was difficult. I attended my first curbside funeral today for my great uncle, my Gran’s brother. It was also my first military funeral. He passed away earlier this week from a prolonged heart condition, and when my dad came in to tell us, my heart broke. I have never been one that deals with death easy, and I tend to take every death that is close to me to heart. That is one reason why I know that I can’t work with the older adult community, or the chronically ill. I rode with my grandparents because I didn’t know where it was at, and I got to see where my great-granny and my uncle Nick were burried. I was a little down for the rest of the day. I stayed in my room, and tried to watch YouTube to make me laugh. Today was also the day that I called my community member and did my weekly wellness check with her. She really turned my day around. In my profession, you have to keep your personal life away from your clients. She asked how my day was going, and it took all I had to not spill everything to her. Instead, we talked about things she liked to do, and her favorite books. It took me out of my head and into my OT headspace. It was refreshing to think on something else, even if the premise of this call was He-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named. After a half hour, I ended the phone call feeling better than when it started. I was cooking dinner after and my brother came home from getting gas. He could always tell when I was feeling down, and has always known how to cheer me up. And he did just that. I also watched one of my favorite movies, George of the Jungle, and I laughed and reveled in the nostalgia that came with it. It reminded me of VHS tapes, and the tv in the kid’s room at my grandparents. I ended the night with a popsicle, and GameGrumps, and I feel better. My mind is clearer that it was this morning, and my heart isn’t as achy. I miss my friends dearly, and I am stressing about how I am going to move all of our stuff from one house to another by myself in the next couple of weeks when the state has extended their “stay at home” policy. But, that is something that will work itself out, and something that can be worked with. I need to just take a breath and worry about what is in front of me: a treatment plan due tomorrow, and 2 due next week. I can do this....WE can do this! And sometimes, walking helps.

Just because it doesn’t look good doesn’t mean it is not good! . . . If you scroll down through the feed of this blog account, you’ll notice that a lot of the pictures I post are of lush landscapes and delicious dishes; both of these are extremely appeasing to the eye and require a fair amount of time, concentration and observation toward finding the right moments to snap them. I would spend time cooking a dish (or mom would spend time cooking a dish for me) and plating it up; alternatively, I would actively keep an eye out for a landscape I had not noticed before, eager to capture it with my phone lens. Right now, I am not presented with many opportunities to do this, due to a range of reasons. Mom still makes amazing food; however, we often lack the patience and resolve to plate it up beautifully and reach for our camera before gobbling it up. With regards to heading out and clicking pictures, it’s kind of a given as to why that is not happening. Today, I post a picture of a DELICIOUS AND SMASHING bowl of hummus which my dad blended up for me. It tastes amazing, but it doesn’t necessarily look amazing. I think we could all do well to get some reassurance of the fact that we needn’t look our Sunday best to assure everyone that we feel great. Just making it known to yourself is enough; don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. . On another note, it is absolutely okay to show everyone else that you’re not okay; in fact, I think that’s more important. It may not make sense, but your burden is not yours to bear alone. Your peers, your loved ones, your family, this community; all of us are here to help you (and each other) get through these rough times as unscathed as possible. . . . Don’t be afraid to show how you feel; it takes guts, but it’s not all that bad. Okay? Take care, stay home, and stay safe ❤️ - #everythingisnotwhatitseems #notokayisokay #takecare #express #together #wegotthis #illbethereforyou #thinkingoutloud #writing #blogger #blog #writersofinstagram #writer #leamingtonspa #leamington #royalleamingtonspa #university #unilife #warwick #universityofwarwick #reflection #pictures #pictureperfect #think (at With You) https://www.instagram.com/p/B_ANwpPlEbR/?igshid=t3gw3kjqmfju
I am not okay.
But you are, and how is that fair? I just wish I could talk to you.
