The words ‘cut off’ scared the bejesus out of him. He was not fond of the idea of having anything cut off, and certainly not ‘that’ thank you very much. He couldn’t hide his brief look of utter shock nor the fact that he took a small step back way from her, but he chuckled in hopes of covering up his discomfort. He watched as she scanned the area. Their options weren’t all that great. But, maybe he could remedy that.
“Well, when I was a kid, my brother locked me in the shed, smaller yes but not really that much different than our current situation.” He explained. “The lock was on the outside, of course. But, the hinges were rather easily removed?” He studied her to see if she was following his meaning.
As soon as the words had left her mouth, she just knew Jesse was going to take them the wrong way. He was sweet, but so very naive, and if she’d been anywhere near as cruel as she believed she was, he’d have been a pigeon for the plucking. Still, she didn’t stop to explain that it was a figurative cut off point, not the Lorena Bobbitt fanclub - they had a situation to manage, after all.
Which was where Jesse redeemed himself in the thinking department. His suggestion was, as she’d hoped, simpler and probably more efficient than her attempt for the roof, and she nodded with a grin. “Sounds good. What do you need me to do?”
