The Merkians from the planet Merkis had been a proud species before their planet exploded into pieces and most of them died. One special couple managed to leave their home before it was destroyed and looked to settle in an inconspicuous planet similar to theirs, they found Earth. There, the couple had their first and only daughter. Due to unforeseen complications at birth, Nova’s mother died and left her father to raise her alone. David Bertinelli, who had taken that name upon coming to Earth, never hid anything from his daughter which resulted in Nova being extremely knowledgeable about the universe, however she had trouble connecting to her human peers due to knowing how different from them she was.

Nova never had much to complain about her life, she had a loving father and a good job, friends were nonexistent but she never felt the need to have them. She had a happy and stable life, or at least she had until a weird man invaded her apartment claiming that there were aliens hidden in there.

Anything you can tell about nova bertinelli?

oh boy, i can tell you everything (at least everything i know, i created her yesterday). i’m about to rant, you’ve been warned.

nova is a doctor who oc. she was born in england and has lived there her entire life. she is a relatively famous graphic designer. after her mother died, her father basically abandoned her, which, along with depression, led to her drinking problem. she started going to gyms and drinking a lot, she was almost homeless at one point, until her dad realized just how much he screwed up and helped her get back on her feet (after some fighting and angst). 

the first time she met the doctor was before he met rose, there was an alien threat (haven’t quite figured out what aliens) that she and her dad got caught up on, her dad dies, she cries, she gets mad, cue this gif:

she keeps meeting him randomly, the first time she meets ten she’s like: “who the fuck are you?”. nova and jack harkness are bros, they have a code word and everything. nova’s there during the whole year that never was (i’m writing about it right now).

the doctor keeps asking if she wants to come with him and she keeps saying she’s not ready, she’s still mourning her parents. she finally accepts to travel with 11, and she never stops. she is in a polyamorous relationship with the doctor and river, her and the doctor get together first but when nova meets river she is soooo gay for her and he knows it (imma stop here otherwise i’ll keep on ranting forever)

19. Favorite photograph headcanon

Nova’s favorite photo is one of her parents and herself as a baby. It is on her nightstand both in her apartment and in her room in the TARDIS.

Nova bertinelii (I didn’t spell it right, sorry) + if she met the doctor first!

i assume you meant if she went with the doctor the first time they met, since they first meet before the modern series begins so i’m gonna go with that.

she doesn’t really likes rose when they first meet, she thinks she is immature and has to keep reminding herself that the other is just 19 year old. she’s also a little jealous but gets over it once she realizes how stupid that is. after they spend some time together, nova comes to actually like rose and they end up as friends. 

nova learns how to fly the tardis by learning from the manual the doctor didn’t throw into a supernova. she is the one who ends up teaching river how to fly properly.

nova likes martha and feels bad for her because of how much both she and the doctor ended up disrupting her life. even though she’s not happy that martha had to go through what she had to go through, she is happy that her friend came out on the other side stronger.

the doctor does not have a very good time when nova and donna are together. they find each other hilarious and donna’s reaction when she finds out that nova actually fancies the doctor is hilarious with lots of “him? really?” involved.

one of the consequences of her being there consistently since they first met is that they are much much closer and they probably end up together much sooner. by the time amy comes along you’d think they could read each other’s mind.

2. How easy is it for your character to laugh?

It really depends on the time in her life and the person. The Doctor and River can make her laugh with a single look and so can Jack. She loves jokes that are so bad they’re good though

8. What were they told to stop/start doing most often as a child

Draw and paint on the walls, little Nova was very artistic. She just didn’t put her art in the right place.

11. How do they cope with confusion (seek clarification, pretend they understand, etc)?

She will investigate the hell out of it, it’s the thing her and the Doctor have most in common, they’re a sucker for knowledge. She gets herself into all kinds of situations because of it. If someone talks about something she doesn’t know, you bet she’s gonna research the hell out of it as soon as possible

14. What animal do they fear most?

Hippopotamus, they’re big, heavy and territorial. You won’t see Nova anywhere near one of them anytime soon
