I'm reading the novelisation of The Awakening, and I can't help but notice Eric Pringle's choice of words here. I wouldn’t have differentiated between the noises people made in the Awakening, and I certainly wouldn't have sorted it by gender. Apparently, when making the same noise, women scream and men cry out. Also, Turlough yells, not screams. Some choices have been made here, and I think it had to do with how people react to someone in distress.
Not to interpret data for you, but I think the assumption that the women on Doctor Who will scream a lot colors the interpretation of what is or is not a scream.
