Takamagahara Nozomi is a very interesting character. Her name alone is striking - ‘Takama-ga-hara’ being the heavenly plains where gods dwell in Shinto belief, and Nozomi meaning ‘wish’ or ‘desire’. The other human characters have animal characteristics. Ginko is black silver, Shiraishi is white gold. Considering her immunity to telepathy, I’ve no doubt Nozo-san is something special that has yet to be revealed.

Speaking of heaven and gods...

The People of Paradise seem very much like gods, existing in a higher plain and only interacting with those they choose through their mind’s eye.

With this mysterious entity’s help, Soya is able to call back humanity from its sealed fate. They seem happy to see Earth being given a choice in the matter, and understanding of the possibility that some may be happier living a dream (Soya included.)

Ginko mentioned previously that The People of Paradise may have had a hand in the founding of Nebula, the group of races following the Evolution of Love. But love can be twisted, so I’ve little doubt that the original purpose of Nebula may have become warped over who knows how long, turning from something that sought to save other races to that which suppresses them.

The Dragon is the result of that twisted love, thinking that the only way to ensure true peace is to purge the universe of all potential danger. Is that why The People of Paradise want it to be defeated? But they have no corporeal bodies, and so perhaps Soya is the only instrument at their disposal capable of doing the job for them.

Although Sensei and Ginko are in his thoughts as well, it’s ultimately Soya’s connection to Nozo-san that drives him to make a deal with the entity and unseal humanity. It’s thanks her to warmth, kindness, understanding and tears that he’s able to take up arms once again. Maybe she’s the embodiment of heaven’s desires after all - wishing for peace and happiness, while understanding the pain and suffering that pushes others to lash out. She reaches out to support Soya instead of shutting him down, which may be what the original Nebula was all about.

No matter the case, I’m excited to see what her final role will be in the series (And can we please see her dream sequence!?)

They changed the exact line in translation, but it was real nice to see this come back. Sometimes you don’t need a grand reason to be on one side or another, just simple feelings.

But really... if this series doesn’t end with Soya and Nozo-san piloting together to defeat the Big Bad with the Power of Love then... it’ll be quite the missed opportunity.

There are a lot of great shows this season, but one of my favorite feel-good sorts is Planet With! It’s an anime-original series written by one of my favorite manga authors, Satoshi Mizukami. In case you don’t know, Mizukami is a MASTER OF STORYTELLING and definitely has a zany sort of style to his works that's featured very clearly in Planet With.

There’s action, there’s drama, there’s psychics! But one of the things I love most about Mizukami’s works is...

Personal relations. The way the cast interacts with one another, the way their lives intertwine in unexpected ways... and the way people fall in love.

These two. They’re just. Just two kids. From different worlds, becoming friends, maybe something more.

She reached out to him when he was adrift in life. He doesn’t know why he’s fighting, but her smile is at least part of the reason.

And being an outsider, she can only worry for him.

At the end of the day, I just want them to be happy and walk to school together. But do your thing, Mizukami.
