Start as you mean to go on.
Almost a week ago we were travelling up to Swindon. Our bags were packed, kit (mostly) washed and our games faces were on and ready. The first champs game of the year in our division and, after last year, we were ready to start this year with a bang. And that’s exactly what we did.
Due to technical difficulties, we had no introductions, no skate outs and no music so we lined up, the blockers up at the front, Moll Esther on the jam line and the whistle blew. Game on!
We had a strong start with our jammers powering through the opposition pack and our blockers defense being incredibly solid, and that’s how we continued throughout the game, just playing the game our way and having fun doing it.
Bedfordshire really played their hearts out and we had such a brilliant time playing against these lovely ladies, but, in the end, we came out on top with the win, 418 - 24.
There’s always pre-bout nerves and worries. What’s the floor like? Am I wearing the right wheels? How many people will be there? But once you start skating, that all melts away and it’s just you and your team and I am so grateful to be part of THIS team, right here, right now. We’ve worked hard to get here and we’re going to show everyone that we have what it takes to come out on top.
