Coverage of the Neue Nationalgalerie exhibition by Norwegian tv channel NRK2
Translation:
Jonas: The way we create our ideas is very impulsive compared to to our other constellations Magne: We have to make disco outfits.. we have to have some disco-combat gear! The group Apparatjik consists of the popstars blablabla and star producer Martin Terefe. A concert with Apparatjik is VERY different from the concerts of Coldplay or A-ha. Videos and animations are projected on the outside of a big cube, while the bands plays on the inside. It all started as an informal creative cooperation where the four could play on the borderline of art and pop, without having to deal with their status as stars, and the expectations their millions of fans. Jonas: The only genre none of us had tried before was disco, so we decided to make disco music and costumes to match. Magne: We work with visual effects, we work with audio effects, we steal (as ravens = norwegian saying) from everything and everyone around us, But even though they met in an informal collective, more and more people take Apparatjik seriously. Also within heavy art institutions. German art dude speaks. But is it important for you that it is art? Magne: ... no... no, I... I don't know if I'm tempted to use any labels at all.. Martin speaks. Guy speaks. Magne: There is no clear main goal. There's no desire of making a career of it. But even if they want this to be something different than their pop-careers, the attention from the press didn't seem much different. Everybody's interested in the spectacular.. Magne: yes... You must have thought about that? Magne: Yes, and in a lot of ways I think a lot of people have their own opinion on the content even before they arrive here.. Fans speak. Guy speaks. Four men with a strong attachment to the commercial pop-industry, might just be too tempting for a museum- director who want people to enter the "art room". museum guy speaks. Still, after a press conference of pop stars in silver clothing, eager fans and hungry journalists, you could become somewhat skeptical of the art collective Apparatjik? Magne: Yeah, I saw you getting a little annoyed back there, I was a little.. it was probably the circus-y outdoor situation. For us, that's first and foremost a little.. embarrassing, but.. it's a little nice that it's embarrassing, it's a little.. *thinking* If nothing else, it's something I think we all need, it's to be put in embarrassing situations every now and then! *thinks and cracks up*
