Video by @amivitale. Happy #WorldAnimalDay! A reticulated giraffe in the sunlight of beautiful Sarara Camp (@sararacamp), part of Namunyak Conservancy in Northern Kenya. Until recently, scientists classified giraffes as one species with multiple subspecies, including the reticulated giraffe. But new research revealed that giraffes should be four species and they are about as genetically distinct as a polar bear is from a black bear! Reticulated giraffe number less than 8,700 individuals — as a distinct species, it makes them some of the most endangered large mammals in the world. Sarara sits on the 850,000-acre Namunyak Wildlife Conservancy and is owned by the Samburu community. Please follow and come visit @sararacamp to learn more about the incredible work they are doing. @nrt_kenya @conservationorg @natgeo @natgeocreative @nature_africa @nikonusa #nikonusa #nikonlove #nikonnofilter #nikonambassador #nikond4s #nikond5 #nikonkeymission #NRTKenya #natgeolodges #kenya #magicalkenya #africa #conservation #animals #magical #beauty #safari #wildlife #climatechange #conservation #natureisspeaking #savetheplanet #photooftheday #photojournalism #amivitale
