He’s taking another sip from his new and full glass of some alcoholic beverage when he hears her question, and it takes a moment for him to process the words and just then realize what she had just said. And he frowns, as a playful and stupid smile spreads on his lips, squinting his eyes a little bit when he looks at her and tilts his head. 

“What type of question is that, Hyemi?” Minjae asks, and a loud and short chuckle escapes from his lips when he thinks of her question again. 

The answer is already being formed in his head, and he can’t believe what he’s about to say to her... He has never been good at handling drunkness, and that explains a lot of his behavior during the party: loud voice and excessive laughter, messy hair and a simple black t-shirt that nobody has ever seen him wearing --- it’s a brand new shirt, which he bought specially for the party with the help of Hajoon.

There was someone he wanted to impress.

“I wouldn’t pay anything! I wouldn’t have to,” he finally gives his answer, his eyes shifting to a certain someone. “I don’t have anything to hide.”

He takes another sip from his drink, his eyes glazed on his hacker.

🥂 + Why do you enjoy teasing me so much?

[ ASK MEME II: HAPPY HOUR ]

it’s only an hour into the party but jihae is already experiencing the sensation of the ounces of stress placed upon his shoulders (by himself, of course) melting away bit by bit. no surprise that it’s from the alcohol he’s consumed thus far, just enough to instill the most pleasant buzz in his mind. he’s taking it slow, purposely, for the sake of enjoying the night rather than diving headlong into drunken oblivion. he’ll do that later on so he can go home immediately after and fall into a dreamless sleep and awaken to the day off he desperately requires.

he’s in the middle of contemplating just what he could do tomorrow when the question reaches him, eyes drifting up lazily to hyemi, a slow grin gracing his lips. “it’s just fun, sweetheart.” he admits, eyebrows furrowing a second or two before he continues, “well, that and you’re easily flustered from things i say even when i’m not trying to tease you. ultimately though, it’s fun. you’re very cute when you blush.” he chuckles, taking a sip from his glass, the burn of the alcohol as it slips down his throat making him sigh. “but… if it makes you genuinely uncomfortable, just tell me and i’ll stop, i promise.”

it's lunchtime and jihae is once again choosing to stay at his computer rather than leave it today. though he intends on working throughout his lunch hour, but he's not without a meal unlike other times. he's been ravenous for most of the morning and while his protein bars usually help stave off the hunger, today the beast that is his stomach is alive and well and unwilling to be tamed until given proper sustenance. he'd left his desk long enough to grab the dosirak he'd gotten from the convenience store he passes on his way from the bus stop to work and returned afterward.

the meal itself isn't bad in the least. homemade will always trump all but this is perfect for what he needs today in terms of allowing him to work and eat at the same time. the work he's doing right now is, admittedly, not begging for immediate attention but jihae wants to get a head start on it. it's easy stuff, for him at least, because it's just updating servers and security measures on some areas that need it-- he could do this in his sleep.

he's just finished tying his meal in a bag when he hears the door open behind him, footsteps approaching him only to pause. he gives it a moment or two and then asks, "what can the all-seeing oracle help you with today?" shifting slightly in his seat to look at the new occupant of the room, his eyes land on the lone figure of the young woman gazing around, hands empty, and honestly looking a bit lost. he recognizes her as one of the new linguists and offers a smile, "you okay there, hon?"

🔫 — what’s your preferred weapon, why?

Jaehwa had never been one to use weapons at all until her first mandatory weapons training at NIS, during which she’d been so enthralled by guns of all shapes and sizes, enough to keep her coming back to the shooting range at least three times a week during her free time to test out different models. She wouldn’t consider herself quite an expert yet, but so far her favorite practice weapon has been a semi-automatic pistol, though she can’t wait until she’s advanced far enough to try out a sniper rifle. 

💥 — how did you get recruited to nis?

Considering her close relationship with corrupt government officials and her less than legal activities during college, Jaehwa has always sort of been on the outskirts of the NIS’s radar--- but it was her extremely public accident near the end of her senior year of college which truly got a recruitment agent’s attention and sparked them to look into her situation. Despite the path of destruction she seemed to leave behind her, Jaehwa’s rank within the students of her criminology degree was too good to overlook, and she ended up being allowed to trade in her life of illegal hacking for a trainee position. 

✂️ — what’s the hardest part about being a nis agent?

Only a trainee thus far, Jaehwa hasn’t encountered too many true hardships within the agency. Really, the hardest part for her ( besides the rigorous training of course ) is moving on with her life knowing that she took a small part in her best friend not being able to move on with his. She still visits him in the hospital as much as she can manage around her tough schedule, and telling herself that she’s doing this for him really helps control her guilt and low motivation.

💣 — what’s the most unforgettable memory you have since you joined the agency? 

Jaehwa has a hard time believing that anything will ever top her first combat training class. Due to her attitude and overall unprofessional, unmotivated aura, she’d been picked on by the instructor and been pushed entirely out of her comfort zone that day--- made to be guinea pig of the instructor’s demonstration and thus the punching bag for every other student to practice their first self-defense move on. Perhaps that’s what gave her that little spark of determination that keeps her going now.

It was nine o’clock pm. Honestly, it wasn’t considerably late until you factor in the fact that Haewon had first stepped into HQ at six o’clock that morning and hadn’t taken a step outside the building since, only taking short breaks for both lunch and dinner just to grab something quick from the cafeteria and bring it back to her desk. Fifteen hours. She’d been non-stop busy for fifteen hours. Haewon must have looked like a zombie--- a quick glance around the linguists’ office told her that her coworkers were in much of the same state. Truly, any one of them could have clocked out at any time in the past few hours, but there was simply too much work to do and far too little time to get it done.

The office was silent aside from the tapping of computer keys, the rustle of papers, a chair rolling briefly across the tile floor--- the three linguists worked in harmony, as they usually did, bothering each other only occasionally to get a second opinion on their work. But Haewon could no longer concentrate on the intel staring at her through her computer screen, and the lights dimming in the hallway outside of their office ( as by HQ’s late night protocol ) was the final straw. Sighing heavily, she saved her work and logged out of the system. 

“You guys think the cafeteria’s still open? I need an iced coffee or I’m not gonna make it,” Haewon spoke into the silence of the room, disrupting the peace.

ask memes I : headcanons.☕️ — do you prefer coffee or tea? why?

Seojun likes both equally, to be quite honest. He really likes the way coffee tastes but doesn’t really like how it leaves him hyper and too awake. And sometimes he feels like coffee messes with his stomach, so he’d rather avoid drinking coffee. But tea is the type of thing he drinks when he’s not feeling well, when he’s sick or hurt, and even if it’s just some superstition of his, he believes that it does help him feel better faster. However, you’ll always find him drinking water or some fruit juice made by himself.

ask memes I : headcanons.🐶 — have you had any pets? do you have one right now?

Yes! Minjae grew up with his family’s two dogs: Chich is the Dalmatian, and Ryu is the Doberman. They were for sure his best friends in his childhood and he couldn’t wait for Sunday afternoons when he could leave the house and play with the dogs in the backyard all day. Right now, the dogs are in their senior age and they don’t play and run as much as they did before, and Minjae makes sure to visit them at his parents’ house as often as possible.

☕️ — do you prefer coffee or tea? why?

He prefers tea, without a doubt. Tea is actually Minjae’s favorite drink and he really hates coffee --- he thinks it’s too bitter and it makes him feel sick, he’s very weak to the effects of caffeine.

🎓 — what did you major in? why?

Minjae majored and got a doctorate degree in Psychology, his father wanted him to study Medicine but Minjae never agreed to that idea. He doesn’t have the guts to open a person’s body, do whatever inside of it and then close it again, that is definitely too much for him. He’d rather take care of their minds! And learn about mental health and care, so he chose to study Psychology, which is his passion.
