so much happening in buffy s3e12 "helpless." angel telling buffy he's loved her since she was a little girl. the ouroboros of gender forcefully given and taken away (buffy denatured as slayer, zackary losing his penis to his mother's scissors, the little red riding hood/wolf metaphor encompassing them both). buffy to giles: "if you touch me i'll kill you." xander thankfully being unable to open the peanut butter jar. getting off with the cross... wow.
i want to write a post seeing red fic where nobody cares that buffy was almost raped, or at least - nobody wants to talk abt it. it's too awkward. all they want to do is make sure that she knows that she can never talk to spike again. but that means she has no one to really talk to abt it. the only person she can actually turn to, the only person who actually might get it, is spike....
everything with giles as buffy's dad in "helpless" is so fascinating to me. like he takes her powers from her and puts her in danger but isn't that the role of the mom in "little red riding hood"? she gives little red the basket and sets her on the path, and tells her to beware of wolves, but what is little red supposed to do? and the parallels between giles and buffy's father are pretty explicit, like buffy hints that giles should take her to the ice show when her own deadbeat dad reneges on taking her... she sees giles as a father figure, and he betrays that by putting her in danger. but ofc that is his "job" as father figure, that is what's been sanctioned and ordered by the society giles is embedded in...
the thing is... i am not going to find very many fics where the love interest straight up rapes the main character and they're still meant to be together. i'm reading a spuffy fic rn and there is SUCH a good opportunity for him to rape her bc he isn't ensouled or chipped rn (it's a time travel fic and buffy meets him before he knows her) and he almostttt rapes her but then stops bc he knows he'll break her. and this is ofc romantic and awww even without a soul he doesn't want to break her... (even if it is nominally out of convenience bc he doesn't want her to break bc she's the first human who's ever been nice to him lol). but i threw down my kobo like a spoiled child like OMG all i want is for him to rape her and for them to have to work thru it... together.... FUCK
