Possible INTPs In Fiction, From An INTP's Perspective:

Loki from the MCU: A quite warped INTP with excessive ENTJ unhealthy shadow functioning. He drops this almost reflexively when he is alone with Thor though (and Thor stops shadow functioning himself), which is part of what makes his character and the interactions between their characters so interesting and is worth an essay in itself.

Eowyn from LOTR: Warped, desperate, and shadow functioning at the beginning, healthy and filling her potential at the end. Part of why her interactions with Faramir is so vital is that he is the first one who is able to help her fix herself and find who she really is.

Daniel Jackson from Stargate SG-1: Sometimes immature. Possibly less messed up than the other INTPs in fiction. This is debatable, but his team grounds him more than most fictional INTPs. They are usually alone; he isn’t.

Desmond Sycamore from Professor Layton: Yeah. A textbook INTP, until — that. Then, probably massively shadow functioning. Him and Loki should get together for a chat.

Stephen Maturin from the Aubrey-Maturin series: So completely an INTP that he carries around obscure medical specimens instead of needed weapons and sees nothing wrong with showing up to an incredibly important and formal occasion dressed in a onesie and carrying a beehive (bees included, they are perfectly harmless, jack). Also is a totally badass spy upon occasion.

Thoughts from the INTJ on these people:

Some of these are my absolute favorite characters in their works. And I find it kind of hilariously sad that all of them, in the end, have the same basic character arc that can be summed up in the one quote: “I never wanted the throne, I just wanted to be your equal.”

Basically, if you know an INTP, hang on to them, because they are probably a powerhouse of untapped and unseen potential and if you or someone doesn’t recognize it, they’ll probably go off the deep end and do something dramatic and dangerous. And why waste that potential when it can be so easily turned on your own enemies?

. . . yeah, that was a bit slytherin and very INTJ, wasn’t it? True though.

Thoughts on Characters In General, from the INTJ

I think it’s absolutely fascinating how much difference one letter on the mbti can make.

For example, I really think that Thor is an INFP and Loki is an INTP. They both shadow function heavily (ESTJ and ENTJ respectively, I think?) when they’re around almost everyone else, but when they are together without anyone watching their personalities radically change.

Anyway, there’s only a slight difference in the type, but it creates a massive difference in how they react to the same experiences. I think it’s fascinating, kind of like watching a car crash in slow motion.
