HAS A FLOURISHING CAREER. HAS OTHER FRIENDS.#and yet in her only actual appearance she is entirely dedicated to A Guy. cmon.#she’s so mild about it too. no big outburst. no anger no embarrassment. just acceptance and amiability. like she’s still acting like eri #not even faux annoyance or banter #BORING!!!

Even if NEO Neku’s story was kind of a nothingburger, his personality, assertive yet calm and steady, is such an awesome continuation of the development he went through in TWEWY, becoming that in contrast to the abrasive and misanthropic kid of Day 1. The fondness with which he regards Joshua, not getting pissed or rising to his bait, just a long-suffering sigh. It’s so… It’s interesting how in his behaviour he places himself on more-or-less equal ground to Joshua, instead of Joshua being some entirely aggravating and incomprehensible force like in his Week. In NEO, Neku well and truly treats Joshua like his asshole friend that he nonetheless trusts, instead of “Composer” or “pain in my fucking ass that I want to be rid of as soon as possible shut up”

i do think sohcahtoa is best used sparingly, it’d be a bit much if minamimoto were spewing it every other sentence when there’s plenty of other math gimmicks to incorporate, but man it’s fun to come up with mnemonics.

everything that sucks about the fundamentally changed rules of the Game in neo is explained away by it being shinjuku shit, but the watsonian explanation doesn’t really stop the shinjukuisms from kneecapping anything that could resemble interesting stakes or character motivations, it’s a stupid narrative decision. brother you made that shit up, and thst shit sucks.

the lack of entry fees means the characters never have to think about what they value most, them not even being dead changes everything from being a desperate last stand for a second chance with a new perspective into “ummmm there’s been an error, actually, i’m not dead?? soooooooo”, them being erased from everyone’s memories instead of dead means there’s nobody to mourn them, no ties to the ug to struggle for. everyone’s in this cause they’d just rather not die if it’s an option.

and then there’s nagi and her dedication to elestra, which could actually be a pretty good motivation, if the why was expanded on at all. she’s willing to help stop the apocalypse in large part because she wants to continue playing an otome game. why is the only tie nagi has to the rg an otome game? she extolls the virtues of communication (interesting!!), but the only emotional bond she has is to an otome game. does she have friends? does she have family? does she talk to any classmates? what is she studying in college? does she talk to anyone ever about anything? does she keep in touch with any fellow elestraniacs? why might she have narrowed her world down to an otome game? did something happen in the past to lead to her dependence on it? has she faced scorn for her interests? did that have any effect on the way she interacts with others? has she always valued communication? has she always been able to read people so scarily accurate? was that something that she had to develop? has anyone been creeped out by that? does she value communication purely because that’s the message of elestra? WHY IS THE ONLY IMPORTANT THING IN HER LIFE AN OTOME GAME? WHY? HOW? WHEN? WHAT IS THE LARGER SIGNIFICANCE OF THAT?
