Vietnam moves closer to building and operating the 1st Nuclear Power Plant in SEA, theirs will have a Capacity of 2.4 GW

Vietnam recently signed an Intergovernmental Agreement with Russia for the construction of a 2.4 GW Nuclear Power Plant. The Plant will be called the Ninh Thuan 1 and will use two VVER-1200 Nuclear Reactors from Russia.

Several Countries in South East Asia (SEA) have constructed and operated Nuclear Reactors, but these are being used mainly for Research only, none of them have established an actual, commercial, working Nuclear Power Plant yet.

Vietnam is reportedly targeting completion of the Ninh Thuan Plant by 2030, so I expect the Contract signing and construction to begin relatively soon. And if they are successful in building and operating this Plant, then they will be the first in SEA to do so.

And with such a high capacity at 2.4 GW, or 2.4 billion Watts of Power.
