Happy Valentine’s Day! The Grill is decorated with hearts, chocolate, candy, and whatever else you can come up with. There’s a kissing booth, and you can take pictures with your Valentine if you’d like. Of course, it’s also possible to write the person you love a card, whether it’s anonymous or not. And then there’s free carriage rides. So, expect this event to be a lot of fun! Except, not really? Lilith is planning on breaking another seal. For this one, she needs one of the originals to lose control of their powers. In this case, it’s Kol. He has the ability to manipulate fire, and fire is just what Lilith needs to raise hell and bring forth the grim reaper. "The second seal shall be broken when an original raises hell and brings forth the grim reaper."

On his way to the dance, Dean Winchester thinks he sees his father that he's been looking for. He goes after the figure through the woods, but it ends up being an ambush. Luckily, Faith Lehane hears noises and decides to help the hunter out and together they take on the council members responsible for the ambush.

Lilith has sent a demon after Trinity Chamberlain to possess her. She then keeps track of Kol Mikaelson and does whatever she can to rile him up, forcing him to use his powers so he'll lose control. It happens as the party is almost at an end, burning the place to the ground, not knowing he just helped break a seal.

After Hayley Marshall finds out her brother was turned into a hybrid, she tries to prevent the same from happening to Tyler Lockwood. When he disappears from the dance, she gets worried and starts looking for him. She finds him unconscious in the woods and discovers he's been turned. She tries to seek out the original hybrid, but he's gone. Instead, she helps the newly turned hybrid adjust to his new life.

Rebekah Mikaelson finds herself getting impatient and more unhappy at the dance when she sees blissful couples celebrating their love. She turns to Brooke Davis and asks her to go along to Founder's Hall to get the cure, not knowing they're breaking another seal... "The third seal shall be broken when an original chooses to become mortal."

There's a trail of wounded people behind the Grill, some have been slaughtered and no one knows who's responsible for it. Until Camille O'Connell happens to walk in on one of the murders when she goes outside to take a breather. None other than Lexi Branson has been possessed by a shadow demon and is causing chaos outside the building. Before Camille can run back inside for help, Lexi locks her up in one of the cellars in the woods.

It takes a while, but eventually, Lucas Scott finds Camille and manages to free the weakened and wounded human. Neither of them knew Lexi was possessed by something, so the hunter goes after the vampire to deal with her.

The founder's council has locked Katherine Pierce up inside the tomb beneath Fell's church. They want to keep the town safe and without her blood, there can be no more hybrids. Except, they're letting her desiccate, and no one knows where she is... Or do they?

Graham Nichol has been ordered to look for Katherine by the original hybrid, but the council picks up on this and kidnaps the hybrid, placing him in one of the cellars at founder's hall.
