🐞 (ladybug) - What does a perfect day look like for your oc? What do they do? Who do they see?
Twelve is a scared beast, so her perfect day is going to be more indoors. I think a good day for her consists of parallel play, essentially, drawing and playing solitaire, or watching something she likes with a friend who doesn’t know it and will listen to her talk about it. Maybe they’ll go to the store and get some snacks. Something easy and lowkey.
🎸 (electric guitar) - What’s your character’s music taste like? Do they have one or two artists they play on repeat or do they have a varied and eclectic collection of music? Do they like mainstream artists or prefer underground musicians? What genres do they enjoy?
Jo likes upbeat and dramatic music, mostly punk and ska, and also emo, swing, and pop. Musical artists like Pinkshift, Harvey Danger, Black Dresses, Jhariah, Will Wood, The Interrupters, Gogol Bordello, Fishbone, JER, STOMACH BOOK, MilkCan, and Jamie-P. (I’m sure she’d be down for industrial & jungle! I need to familiarize my white ass more with the genres -_-; pls send recs)
a/n: this was very self indulgent but also extremely heart breaking to write as a bokuto kinnie.
************************************
The roar of the court, the ache that conquered his muscles, the cheers from the crowd, the splitting sound of his cut shot. His senses overwhelmed by the feeling of what he worked so hard for. The way Bokuto basked in the glory of his victory. His number four accompanied by a quiet number five. The trophy raised above the team, him raised along with it. You watched from afar, way up in the bleachers. Swelling with pride, you waved to him. and he waved back. slowly but surely, the momentum of the crowd brought you down to his side. His large bicep wrapped around your shoulder, keeping you close in the midst of cameras, microphones, and the defeated team on the other side of the net. The feeling of his jersey pressed against your own sleeve of the Fukurodani jacket. the kiss that was planted onto your temple before he retreated to the locker rooms, the rest of the team following. That small gesture now burned into a small piece of your mind that you held onto so tightly.
Your college degree, the echo of your steps as you walked across the stage, the crisp crinkle of the papers that accompanied your diploma. The cheers from your parents, the louder ones sounded from the national player that used his only day off to hop on a plane to see this moment. A moment that defined your life apart from the one you both grew up together through. The floral lays rested around your neck, the large bouquet thrown at you with a much larger “Hey Hey Hey!!”. The laughs that escaped your parents as you blushed at his excitement over your accomplishment. The flash of the camera as Bokuto took the family photo, the click of Bokuto joining the family photo. and, the feeling of his lips pressed to your temple at the last moment, right before the photo was captured. The time you spend looking at that photo hung above your desk in your room, it could last eternity.
Again, the roar and cheers from the crowd, him overwhelmed with the feeling of his rewarded hard work, the screams of his parents sounding through the gym along with yours. The number four Bokuto still sported so proudly, only this time in a different color. The colors weren’t a matter, the feeling just the same as it was years ago. Your heart thumped a little louder, his parents ushering you back his side on the court. He looked and smelt like he was drenched in glory, just as he intended to be. The shock in his eyes staring down at you, your lie of “I can’t make it, work came up” sounding through his head. The hug that transferred all of his ecstasy straight to your heart, the love you were unaware of slowly growing. The identical cheeky smiles that struck the cameras of reporters that surrounded you. You looked at the pictures now, each one conveying the serotonin that filled each of your veins. The very last one, the last piece of evidence of the ecstatic moment, resembled the same one that hung on your wall. The feeling of that kiss still tainting your skin.
The countless memories that came after and during both of your own personal journeys. You seeing him off to his international tour, Him seeing you off to your first time in America. Your new job awaited you. Birthdays too, they were filled with a different surprise each year. Whether it was the adventures of you showing Bokuto Disneyland, or the elaborate picnics he would take you to in the mountains, you both shielded by the clouds. There’s one memory that stood out, stood out from the thousands collected from the friendship that connected you two across continents. The call that changed your entire perspective on the importance of understanding your own feelings. The importance of small gestures, just like a kiss.
This call brought you back home, back into a hospital examination room. The smell of glass and alcohol flooding your senses, tears pricking your eyes as you waited for Kou to appear. His thundering foot steps, now reduced to a patter. the energy that manifested itself into gold, didn’t shine as brightly now in the pools of his irises. but what caused your tears to spring free from your eyes wasn’t when he muttered the phrase “I’m sick”. It was the way he kissed your temple as he said it, the tears from his own eyes dripping onto you. Oh how you wish you could feel that kiss the way you felt your own tears now.
Your entire life shifted from learning the details of his health. Six months. Six months is all you had to left to fit in everything you wanted for Bokuto. You relocated your job back to a safe distance from the hospital that maintained him, never straying too far. his entire world became contained inside the walls lined with ventilators and needles. Your world began to slowly gravitate and rotate around him. The light he carried with him, the light that still laced his exhausted and worn down figure, was bright enough to make the sun shy. Even with the medications pulling down his spirit and his drive to move forward, he never failed to show you that he was still holding on to what reality he had left. Each visit was sealed with a kiss to your head that accompanied you on your drive back home, only to drive back the next morning. The memory strikes you every time you get behind the wheel, holding a hand to the side of your face in an attempt to feel the warmth of his affection once more.
The time came, six months worth of suns and moons had passed. Six months suspended in the air of that hospital and that pull in your heart still wasn’t acknowledged. One night made it clear that you wouldn’t be driving back the next morning. You had ignored the feeling in your chest that burst to life every time Bokuto embraced your figure, every time the gold in his eyes poured into your soul, every time he kissed your head with every ounce of gentleness he could muster. But in this moment, the pull in your chest sent a pang through your heart. His hand reached for you, summoning your head toward where he laid in his drowsy state. The beeps of the monitor attached to his heart becoming occasional more than constant. With your last moments together, he tried to allow himself to show you one more time that you were cared for. That you were loved by him. But, his strength was fading faster than the spark in his eyes. So you decided it was your turn, it was your turn to remind him and admit to yourself that you loved him. You bent forward as your hand gripped his, the other brushing his bangs from his forehead, the ones that stupidly covered those beautiful eyes. For the first and last time in what felt like eternity, the most genuine smile graced his pale face as your lips connected to his temple. You could only hope that the sensation and affection behind it would taint his skin as he had tainted yours.
As you pulled back, you kept your gaze connected to the face you admired so much, but neglected that admiration. The color slowly left his skin, the gold succumbing to the drooping of his eyes, the light leaving the smile that was there only a few seconds before. the memory of you crying out, asking him to come back, or even leaving the hospital after the monitor finally formed a flatline, couldn’t be found anywhere in your mind. All you remebered was the pull in your chest finally receding... you had finally returned the gesture.
You now sat in the middle of the court at Fukurodani Academy, where the small gesture first started. In the late hours of the night, the light Bokuto’s presence left still shined brighter than any star that appeared. All of the memories etched a picture for you to see when you closed your eyes, but at the end of the night, one picture stayed. Imprinted into the very essence of your consciousness. You saw how kou flew across the court and towards the net, you could’ve sworn wings made of light erupted from his strong broad back that held you up when the world collapsed. But now, he flew through the sky. real wings supporting him on his journey to the endless happiness you knew he deserved. You pressed a gentle finger to your temple, reciprocating the feeling of his affection. A shooting star crossing your vision as you gazed into the dark pool that surrounded you. You pulled your hand away, but the pressure was still there. But, as the star flew out of your line of sight, so did the warmth attached to your temple. Sitting in the cold of night, it became clear to you that Kou’s gesture would find it’s way to you when you needed it most. He made sure of it.
