A#322 Numel and #323 Camerupt
These two were based on Protylopus and Megatylopus, respectively. Let's break down their typing, shall we? Removing them from their volcanic origins- and their Fire typing- was easy enough. But how do you turn camels into camels and claim that they've stopped being Ground? Funnily enough, early camels didn't inhabit deserts in the same way modern camels do. In fact, some occupied the cold forests of northern Canada! Most early camels occupied the savannahs that wild horses do, so it seems that Normal would be fitting for that.
New Numel (hehehe, Newmel) would have a mechanical identity similar to many other first-stage or unevolved Normal types. It's here to be cute. I imagine it would easily learn Growl, Tail Whip, Baby-Doll Eyes, and Charm.
New Camerupt, however, would be all about being BIG. The size differential between Protylopus and Megatylopus was immense, and I think seeing that in Pokemon would be rewarding. Megatylopus was one of the first camels to have a hump, so naturally we comically exaggerate it. Look at its matted fur!
