“Well you have a happy job”

is what everyone says. Labor and Delivery. “I wish I could get paid to hold babies”.

Yeah... I don’t do that. Hardly ever.

Last night I helped a mother deliver her full term stillborn. I cried with her and her husband cause it’s just not fair.

The night before, a mother was crashed in the OR cause her baby’s heart tones were down too long. And then another mom had a post partum hemorrhage. I ran into respond to the emergency call, and ran in to see a bathroom floor covered in blood.

This isn’t a pity post. Cause I absolutely love my career.

I (strangely enough) like taking care of fetal demises. I’ll volunteer every time to take that patient. Doting on those parents and comforting them makes me feel good. Getting them through the worst day of their life is truly an honor. I feel grateful to be able to help them.

I loveeee a good crash c-section. When all the pieces fall into perfect place. It’s a scary adrenaline rush. But that baby’s cry at the end, makes it all worth it.

Labor isn’t rainbows and unicorns.

I wish it was. It’s fucking insane. The things I see. What a woman’s body goes through. It’s amazing. And I am so blessed to be apart of so many lives going through this journey.
