There's a lot of fic out there to prove how bad I was at writing (and still am, in many regards!). I'd describe every little thing, just like the stories I read. They went into great detail about blue curtains and sapphire skies, so that's what I did, too. I'm not getting paid by the word (or, y'know, at all), so I've been changing my writing style over the years. Writing like I'm watching a movie still gives me blue curtains and sapphire skies, but it's the movement of the wind in the curtains and the clouds racing across the sky that get described instead. If I can't "see" something happening in my head, it doesn't get written.
