Comparison time. I wanted to know the differences in NVIDIA ShadowPlay and Fraps screencaptures. for video capturing I choose ShadowPlay because I have no fps loss, it takes 10x less space and it captures everything as it is meaning same fps in videos as it records in and same display, for me it’s 1920x1200
For pictures however. It annoys me that I can’t take many pics one after the other, I have to wait for at least 3 seconds till I can take another screenshot. For someone like me who takes 100000 screenshots at once to get the perfect pic it has proven a little difficult for me.
ShadowPlay on the left and Fraps on the right
But. These won’t look as good because Tumblr quality but I looked at them both on fullscreen pointing out the differences. I came to the conclusion that ShadowPlay’s screenshots are sharper and of better quality.
Differences:
-Reins on the neck. Let’s start there. You can clearly see how muffled the fraps quality is. from that let’s move to the character and horse overall. A lot sharper in ShadowPlay
-Wood textures. Sharper in ShadowPlay
-Hunger, thirst, indicators. Shaper in ShadowPlay
-Vibrant colors. in ShadowPlay because of better anti-aliasing which makes for better pictures.
Other Pros for ShadowPlay:
- Free (for NVIDIA Geforce users, actually the only users if you don’t have a NVIDIA Geforce graphics card one can’t have ShadowPlay at all)
- Small files
- Amazing quality in both videos and screenshots
- x64 bit recording program for x64 bit windows 10. (Fraps is only x86 bit or 36 bit)
- In 64-bit games Fraps doesn’t allow other overlays seen in-game. Like The Steam Overlay. ShadowPlay allows everything/ doesn’t overwrite other overlays.
I’m so changing to ShadowPlay. I don’t care that now it takes me forever to take pics, quality is important. And it’s free for heaven’s sake because I have NVIDIA Geforce 960 GTX. Thank god I have not bought Fraps. The pros win the cons for which the only con is not as many screenshots being able to take at a time.
For some reason my Shadowplay has a really annoying static in the right audio channel. It’s pretty easy to edit out in Audition, but when I actually say something with the mic the static finds it’s way back in.
This seems to be a rather recent issue, but most of my old shadowplay captures didn’t have the mic on, so I can’t be sure. It seems to only be shadowplay, as recording audio in any other program works fine.
Any ideas on fixes other than getting a dedicated mic instead of a wireless headset, which is inarguably not the best option for recording audio?
is anybody else who uses NVIDIA GeForce experience having trouble with it working?? especially the “share” feature??
i’ve been using the shadowplay/share feature for all my recordings but after the most recent update its been fucked. the share window wont open, none of my games can be optimised (i dont use that feature but when every game has an exclamation mark on it i figure that means something’s wrong.)
i cant even uninstall it to do a clean install??? nvidia literally wont work properly and wont go away
Shadowplay works really well. Didn’t notice any performance hits when I recorded. Too bad my aim is kinda off. This game has the best reload animations.
