so historically the New York world did something awesome! Every year there was a huge yacht race that was the highlight of the summer. One year the New York World rigged some toy trains to look like sailboats and set them on a track across the building. They carrying telegrams to the newsroom. people loved it.

Imagine the newsies seeing that.

Hannah/Medda Modern AU

this is for a really complicated au of mine

This takes place in 2017.

Hannah is an assistant managing editor overseeing politics at the New York World. 

She got out of an abusive relationship about four years earlier and has some lasting trauma. 

She’s lesbian and she doesn’t really feel sexual attraction till she knows/trusts someone. She came out of the closet in 2016 right before Trump took office.

Medda is a Tony Award winning actress/producer. 

she has three children, Race Higgins, Crutchie Morris, and Jack Kelly. 

She’s also lesbian

They’re both in their forties when they meet.

Ida B. Wells knows both of them. she sets them up.

So they meet in a cafe near City Hall for lunch.

they start talking about early 20th century writers they both low-key crush on.

they really like each other

Medda actually invites Hannah to her apartment

but then a senator is arrested for drunk driving so Hannah has to go and figure out how to handle that with Denton (the political editor)

A couple of days later they go out again.

this time they go back to Medda’s apartment

and watch a movie

they hang out whenever they have time.

eventually Medda moves in with Hannah.

its around this time that Jack finds out his mom is dating a top editor at the newspaper where he works. 

Hannah also oversees Jack’s husband (Davey)

The pair get married in January 2020 after dating for three years.
