y'all ever just think about Crutchie in the refuge and how horribly he was treated? y'all ever just think about that? and how he knew all the other Newsies were probably struggling as well (due to the strike failing in the first place) and it just made him feel worse?

I saw someone say that Jack “Savior Complex” Kelly and Crutchie “Hyper Independent” Morris made for a really interesting dynamic, and I agree!

I think that Jack definitely has a savior complex. He definitely feels this strong urge to attempt and keep everyone safe, especially as his role as the leader of the lower manhattan newsies, but then gets very stunned and confused when crutchie doesn’t want his help. It’s show multiple times throughout lots of adaptations that crutchie doesn’t want jacks help. Or ANY HELP for that matter. One example of this being: “I don’t want anyone carrying me.” He doesn’t want Jack to help him, because he’s already seen as “lesser than” and “weak” from his disability, and doesn’t need anyone thinking that more than they already do.

side note: the infantilization in the newsies fandom with crutchie NEEDS TO STOP. it’s ableist, and it’s straight up mischaracterization. I find it highly offensive, and so does anyone with common sense.

But I don’t wanna keep y’all long, but I do find it insane how amazing of a dynamic they are with the savior complex of Jack Kelly and the hyper independent Crutchie Morris. I’ve never seen a dynamic like this in ANY type of media, and I honestly would love to see more! It’s really interesting, and leads to really interesting scenarios and all that, but to sum it up, it’s definitely one of the few perfect dynamics to describe their relationship.

letter from the refuge v santa fe always gets me bad ugh. jack's totally given up he's been knocked to the ground enough times to just lie there and accept that the strike cause is over and he's lost his best friend and he'll live and work and die in new york at the rate everything's moving at. and crutchie's like well hey pulitzer's going down! strike could still work! but also lol can u tell everyone to protect one another (speaking as though he might not make it back to tell them himself) :-( :-( :-( hope that only lasts so long for the both of them

Daily rants:

This one newsie in my show keeps kicking my crutch and it’s really making me mad. Like, we’ll be standing there and I’ll be paying attention and they’ll kick my crutch and I’m like…ugh. I don’t know how to politely say they’re being rude and annoying the crap out of me.

The other day they did it while I was moving and tripped me and I turned around and hit them in the ankle with the crutch (on instinct, not on purpose) and I felt kinda bad but also like that’s what happens?

And they STILL haven’t stopped. They think it’s funny I think but I never laugh and I always ignore them. No one else laughs either. I don’t get it.

Like, it’s rude to trip people? Especially when you’re both working…

Like there’s no reason why when our choreographer is talking to us and giving us direction you should be kicking my crutch. We should be both paying attention.

Also, I hope you don’t genuinely think it’s funny to mess with disabled people? That’s weird.

But it’s like, the crutch works as another leg for me during rehearsals because I’m always “on” as Crutchie physically. So even if I’m not actively performing, unless I’m sitting offstage, I’m using my crutch for support. And like, kicking it out from under me could not only hurt me but also damage the prop?

And you wouldn’t kick people’s legs? At least I hope not bc it’ll get you punched.

And like, their character and Crutchie have like some friendly beef going on, so maybe they think it’s in character? But like, they do it even when we aren’t acting.
