FYI  The translation is supposed to sound weird, I'm doing it as literally as I can. I'm not used to translating Greek to English so it may be because of that, but it's more difficult for me to translate word for word in English. Though it may also be because Dutch is more flexible with word order.

Making a (face swapped) gif

Okay, this is actually a very easy thing to do. I'm using cs5, personally. I dont know how different things might be in an earlier version, sorry! If you're wanting to edit a pre-existing gif:

You should probably note that opening gifs to edit in photoshop doesn't work in photoshop CS4 (at least I don't think so. I've looked and looked but I can't find any way that works). Looking forward to your gif-making post :D

looks like you're out of luck if you're cs4 or earlier. That sucks, and I have no idea how to get around it! If you're making your own though, I believe everything I've done here can at least be done in cs4. (though it might be under import... hm. I'm not sure!)

You can definitely edit gifs in CS4. Go to file, import, video frames to layers, and then type in your gif filename, it'll pop up, and then you're golden.

Alright, let's get down to business! (how many of you are singing a song now?)

First of all, let's make sure your animation window is open. Because you'll need it sooner or later, so you might as well open that puppy right now.

I already have my frames saved, and there's a multitude of ways for people to do this. Personally I use VCL player and the handy dandy capture screen button. It saves every frame into a predetermined folder for me.

You can chose "file" or "folder" in that dropdown. I generally just select the entire folder because I clear out my frames as soon as I'm done with them. (browse, select folder, and then it'll take a minute to load all the files. Hit OK!

And it will load each of the images into one file. Each frame is it's own layer. Handy.

In your animation window, click that little ...more? button. First select "Make frames from layers." This, as you might have guessed, makes frames from your layers.

Unfortunately, photoshop is really stupid and has chosen to put all of your frames in backwards. Unless you want to watch things in reverse, click that button again and choose "reverse frames."

That's better.

Now we need a Nigel.

This one will do.Sadly I dont know where to get good quality nigel caps.

Aaaand now Ive erased all the other crap and cleaned up the lines (and at this point have forgotten that Belle's hair is brown.)

The background is grey just to let me see the lines better, instead of having a harsh white background.

Back to our file with Belle. I select the first frame, wipe out her face, annnnd

suddenly remember that I need to make Nigel's mustache match her hair aaaaand then

paste Nigel's face on a new layer above Belle's. On the belle layer, I fill in the holes where her face doesn't quite meet Nigel's with her skin colour. (I merge the two layers in one after I'm happy with the placement of things, just to keep myself with as few layers as possible.)

Lather, rinse, repeat on each new frame/layer. I'm all done now, as you can.. kind of see. I also chose now to cut down the frames in the beginning and end just to make things smoother.

Also make sure that you have it set on "forever" in that lower left corner. Change speed as you like/etc.

File>save for Web and Devices to save it. Another window will pop up where you can edit the settings, but I'm choosing not to show it because the settings, for me, change every time I make a new gif, and I dont want you to think that you need to make them match whatever I have. Just play around with them and find one that is best.

Is it perfect? Nooope. There's a reason I made the other gif instead of this one, but for a quick and dirty tutorial, it does the job. You may choose to be more careful about your placement, you might choose to not make your swapped face blend with the original. Whatever! The power to save the planetmake ridiculous face swapped gifs is now in your hands.
