NYCC 2014 Day 4
Here’s the link. One of the things I liked about it was they included Vertigo titles. Coffin Hill was ongoing and Clean Room was launching soon.
The response to Jim Caviezel by some fans was like nothing I’ve ever seen. In addition to this very nice, framed fan drawing, someone got up on stage and gave him a homemade rosary that she had blessed by a priest. I have to assume that it is related to him having played Jesus in The Passion of Christ because otherwise just don’t get it. I do like tv show panels, even as I don’t think I really get much insight.
I’ve brought up my defense affection for Ann Nocenti before. The hatred that most of her work for DC generated at the time was really extreme. While Klarion got cancelled after six issues, it was a turning point for Nocenti’s reputation. Even people who disliked her Green Arrow and Catwoman runs thought, this was a good match of writer and character. (It’s also the second time that I’m aware of where she’s written a mostly obscure character who also had a character defining limited series written by Grant Morrison. The first, was Kid Eternity, and Klarion was one of the Seven Soldiers of Victory in Morrison’s limited series of the same name.) her more recently series, Seeds and Ruby Falls, both under Karen Berger’s imprint at Dark Horse have been fairly well receive (though, Seeds has some ridiculous delays.)
I wonder if the winner and any of the finalists are in comics now? I don’t remember any names.
I am proud to say that I have read almost all of the ones in the pile I hadn’t back then, and have since developed a much bigger to-read pile.
