I was thinking of what I could do to help support Ukraine, and decided to make a painting of Veselka--the East Village's renowned Ukrainian restaurant. I also love that the word "veselka" means "rainbow" in Ukrainian. Then, I was in touch with Veselka about wanting to support Ukraine with print sales, and they recommended choosing a vetted charity via Razon for Ukraine to find one that resonates.

3.8.22 Later than lunchtime drawing: A breath of fresh air at McNally Jackson bookstore since 2003 on Prince Street in NOLITA (1 of 4 locations, Seaport, Wiliamsburg, and Downtown Brooklyn are the others.) Continuing with the Independent bookstores NYC theme!

I was stuck in a freight elevator for a while today, check out my story for a sketch made in that compact space where I was actually thinking "I hope I finish this drawing before I get rescued!" 3.22.22 Lunchtime drawing: Community Bookstore in Park Slope, Brooklyn, opened its doors in 1971, and is notable for a considered selection of new books, their garden, and for their animals (one cat and one turtle, at present)!

9.23.21 Lunchtime drawing: Saigon Vietnamese Sandwich Deli on Broome St., I used to stop here each evening I went to the studio back when I had a space in Dumbo, killer vegetarian Banh Mi options! Also, the two people I sketched in got up and left before I finished, so just empty chairs on the left.
