nyctra: Party rock is a derivative of the Misfits?
englishbot: Hey buk can you translate that?
nyctra: Simulación que le digan que tiene un letrero en el huevo de gallina.
englishbot: Who?
nyctra: They have a few robot friends!
englishbot: Le France..
Curious/can't remember, do you ever sell meat, or is it all for personal consumption? (Here in OR, gotta have licenses to sell processed, even for pet food if I remember right.)
in washington you can sell meat you slaughter yourself but only if it meets the usda criteria so it has to be done in a sterilized dedicated enclosed area which i don’t have (personal kitchen doesn’t count apparently), so legally i can’t sell the meat. i give it away to friends or accept “donations” in exchange for a bunny. i want to say there’s a mobile slaughter unit you can rent but you gotta book months in advance and honestly i just have rabbit to slaughter 24/7 because of the way i breed these days so it’s easier to just eat it all myself tbh
This baby was napping with its face smushed between the bars. The blue one came and woke it up so it could flop down there, too.
@nyctra
Hello! A quick question: my friend’s rabbit had an accidental litter of three but the mother ate two of them. Is there any way to save the last one?
Ohgosh! :( poor things.
Uhm- let me tag my rabbit-friend who knows legit any rabbit thing ever LOL
@nyctra hey hun do you know the best course of action for this?
nyctra replied to your photoset “avarice doesn’t want me to watch her stash. but on the plus side, you...”
Isn't that particular "silvering" just part of the otter/marten pattern? (It seems like it varies how far the ticking can reach.)
i mean most likely. her silver goes up to her back and up on her knees/loin though which makes me not 100% sure if it’s silvering or just the marten pattern. she doesn’t have much on her face, but i’ve had third-gen champagne mixes that looked v similar
in any case, she was bred to a champagne buck so these babies are gonna be gorgeous
nyctra replied to your post “tough week. lost three of fiver’s kits to starvation, and hazel’s are...”
Try confining them in the nest and covering it with a towel? Sometimes it works, sometimes not.
i tried that but she jumped out anyway. she would flinch every time the kits would try to latch on, like she hated the sensation more than anything in the world. holding her down didn’t really work cos she’d just scrunch up and refuse to let the milk down in any significant quantity. i’ve never had luck flipping even my chillest does, and hazel is Not one of them.
fiver does not appear to have milk anymore and has given up feeding kits. when i gave her the nest box last night she started pulling all the hay out and stashing it in corners. now i think i understand how this issue started in the first place 😒

I'm using my little Mini Rex miracle mixes for meat bc they beat my Silver Fox and various other meat mixes in growth rate, feed conversion, dressout, and bone:meat. :B I say, breed the itty bitties!
if it makes you guys feel better i bred fiver to a harlequin and hazel to a harlequin/rex cross to increase the size of the offspring to something closer to a commercial size rabbit.
i love the idea of mini-meat from an urban homesteading perspective, since they grow fast, eat less, and make great single-serving meals, but i’m usually feeding at least two people with my rabbits, and people want to buy them to feed their family, and and bigger pelts = more money, so i prefer mine closer to commercial size. i bought fiver for her coat pattern and she’s not actually a dwarf, just small. bigger than even a false dwarf hotot. i should go drag the gram scale outside and weigh her but she’s at least 3lbs, so y’know. breed her to a bigger buck (but not too big,) and the kits should be decent enough for my needs.
