On this day in 1803, at the Congress of Arcahaie, Catherine Flon stitched together the blue and red of our flag and helped stitch together a nation.

The Haitian flag was born from sacrifice, unity, courage, and the dream of freedom. Today, NY Friends of Haiti 2010 (NYFOH) proudly honors our ancestors, the women like Catherine Flon who helped shape Haiti’s birth, and all Haitians around the world who continue to carry our history, pride, and hope forward.

At NYFOH, we celebrate Haitian Flag Day with gratitude, patriotism, and a continued commitment to service, education, unity, and community empowerment.

Calling Volunteer Educators!

NYFOH is seeking pro bono teachers to support our students in Haiti. We’re looking for volunteers who can commit 1–3 hours per week for a semester in the following areas: English, French, Music, and Photography.

NYFOH provides student coordination, cultural context, local supervision, and an in-class facilitator, so volunteers can focus fully on teaching and mentoring.

Last Friday, our students at Éco-École d’Amitié in Ranquitte, Haiti enjoyed a joyful Christmas Movie Day—a well-deserved moment of relaxation and togetherness after their exams. The day was filled with laughter, smiles, and holiday cheer, creating beautiful memories for our school community.
