The New York Philharmonic wrapped up its 16th annual residency at @bravovail. 1) Bass Trombone George Curran warms up in the beautiful little garden behind the brass and percussion. 2) The Gerald R. Ford amphitheater is nestled at the base of Vail Mountain. This year we performed to capacity crowds on gorgeous nights like this! 🌄 3) Hans Graf (left), Concertmaster Frank Huang, and Louis Lortie share a moment backstage before they took the stage for Ravel’s Piano Concerto for the Left Hand. 4) Very Young Composers of Vail culminated their 10-day workshop with two performances of the participants’ new pieces. Philharmonic violist Peter Kenote and trumpet Thomas Smith along with musicians from the area helped bring the composers’ pieces to life! 5) @joshuaweilerstein led sister @alisaweilerstein in a stellar performance of Elgar’s Cello Concerto. 6) As is tradition we ended the final concert of our residency wishing retiring musicians well. The back half of our 16th annual @bravovail residency began today! 1) Associate Principal Percussion Daniel Druckman holds the cymbal with his hand for increased resonance during the exposed passages of Debussy’s “La Mer.” 2) Big forces on stage for both “La Mer” and Ravel’s “Boléro.” 3) During the Orchestra’s 20 minute break members of the bass section take to the lawn for some frisbee action! 4) Concertmaster Frank Huang is having a banner week. He and the NYP String Quartet performed a chamber concert last night. Today he is the soloist in Lalo’s “Symphonie espagnole” and on the final day of our residency he will play the Concertmaster solos in Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade.” Whew! 🎻 #nyphil #nyphilharmonic #violin #concertmaster #nypvail #performancepractice #lamer #cymbals 📷: @zach_photo (at Gerald R.
