Hi, sorry about this, but you omegaverse posting made me compelled to ask. How do you generally think it'd work with like secondarys and stuff? like what would/do they mean to you? I'm very interested in what people who like omegaverse not just for horny reasons think. Because I really like it and have my own interpretation of it but I never interact with it in depth (well I haven't in years)

OKAY for me the main indicator of secondary is scent (but I think that’s also partially influenced by what I find most compelling in the omegaverse).

The way I see it, prior to presentation, people don’t have a scent and can’t ‘smell’ other people’s scents. This is largely why parents will scent their kids to be like ‘this one’s mine!’

Upon presentation tho, teens will gain a scent of their own (and be able to smell others). And I feel like it’s the kind of thing that you just instinctually know when you smell it- whether it’s an alpha beta or omega scent. Like it’s hardwired into your brain or something in the way that fuckin animals or whatever put off certain pheromones that trigger certain responses.

Like 3 years ago I also put together this rough diagram when I was writing my first omegaverse fic and the general basics of it are like. Alphas can put off a stronger scent and are good at controlling how much/what kinda of emotions they put off but they’re not so good at deciphering other peoples scent. Betas don’t smell too strongly, but are good at picking up/reading other ppls scents. Omegas both put off a strong scent and have a good sense of smell but they aren’t naturally the best at filtering input/output.

Personality wise, I think there’s a lot of overlap between what people will say about certain secondaries so I kind of play loose with that and go with my gut a lot of the times (when it comes to assigning roles.) After all, part of what makes the omegaverse interesting to think about in a social context is it’s a trope that’s long treated secondary dynamics as this innate unchanging thing. So the idea of people who don’t fit that/feel different than what society/their biology dictates they should be is interesting and a realistic interpretation.

I said this on twitter already but to me, pack dynamics and the role you play in taking care of your pack is like the core of the omegaverse, so the general kind of vibe i go for is that alphas lean more towards being outwardly/loudly protective, omegas provide a more quiet yet sturdy and unwavering support, and betas are like the glue that ties everyone together. Again tho that’s not like a rigid thing.

Anatomically speaking, I personally don’t fuck around with stuff like. Alpha females having a penis or male omegas having a uterus. Kinda just not my vibe, the most i do with that would be male alphas having a knot or male omegas producing slick or whatever. What’s the biological purpose of that if they can’t even get pregnant? Fuck if I know dude lmfaooo

got any headcanons about betas? like they have to have instincts and interesting social stuff going on with them but they hardly get written about, some fics neglect to even mention betas exist

sure! here's a few :o

The most common misconception about betas is that they're just normal humans, or just the inbetween of alpha and omega-- neither of which are true. Betas are actually their own distinct secondary, with their own characteristics.

Because of the way traditional society often overlooks betas, many betas feel the need to either A. devote themselves wholeheartedly to another person/s to prove their worth as a beta or B. to do something bold/outrageous to make themselves seen. In younger betas, this can be seen as being too rowdy/disruptive in class, or latching onto older kids. Falling too hard into this kind of behavior can sometimes be detrimental to the beta later on in life.

Betas have the most mild scent, but the best sense of smell too, which helps them as they tend to take on supportive/mediator roles. Whereas alphas and omegas may not immediately pick up on changes in a person's scent, betas are able to take notice of how someone is feeling much quicker.

But, with that role, betas may also forgo their own feelings in favor of helping others and it's hard to decipher their emotions with a duller scent. Make sure to check in with your local beta regularly, they have feelings too 👍

Betas are the most adaptable. They can adopt/mimic the behaviors of those around them, such as an omega's tendency to nest. However, some betas may also purposefully fake these behaviors (most commonly that of alphas) to posture/make themselves stand out

Most conservatives still believe that betas can only acceptably pair with other betas, as A/O couples are seen as superior.
