Not very aesthetic, but I just saw a little white eye in the garage! No idea how long he'd been there, I managed to scoop him up & crawl through furniture to get him outside. He tried to fly but didn't make it very far & was looking in bad shape, so I tried giving him water, honey, & sugar water on my fingers which he seemed to appreciate. My hands were way too shaky though & it was starting to rain so I scooped him up again & put him in a cardboard box with water & an orange. He gradually started to perk up & eventually flew off! I feel so unbelievably lucky to have seen him & be able to rescue him before he was too far gone! The poor baby.
I met a very friendly South Island Robin over New Year’s while driving up to Nelson
Part of why oils feel so alien to me is because for ages I've been working primarily with water colours, making things like this.
LOOK at THIS! This is an awesome thing that I got to see because my job is great. This is a cave weta in the middle of shedding, which is not a common sight but because part of my job is looking after a bunch of captive cave weta and I happened to open the door to their habitat at the right time on the right night, and it happened to shed in a super obvious spot, I got to see it! And take photos!
So pretty! This sorta stuff is super exciting :D
