Hands clutched one another tightly as she tried to collect herself, heart now racing. Words failed her, unable to find their way past the lump of nerves forming in her throat.
TIME TO FALL IN LOVE. She was but a supportive childhood friend, right ?? He was ready to finally find someone to settle with, to share his heart with-- right ?? Body shifted, hiding her face from him as she allowed his words to nestle in with her own doubt and fears. While he unknowingly held her delicate heart, his was still free to be handed off to the one meant for him. Not for one he grew up while she seemed to never age with their differences in species.
HOW SILLY she had been to believe there could even be hope between them. No... they were FRIENDS and she should simply be happy with that. It was time for him to fall in love... She couldn’t keep desperately grasping at the hope they could possibly be more than they were. Still, no matter how much it may hurt, she owed him her support. They were close friends and even if he found another, her heart would always be his. She just wanted him happy... Lips forced into a gentle smile, her pain immediately pushed back to allow a cover to make its way on her features.

She could at least pretend to be happy if he was happy. That would make the pain of losing him much easier to manage.
