Gasteria "Marble Shores". Juvenile Gasteria hybrids created by Melobotanics.
(Gasteria glomerata x rawlinsonii) X (Gasteria bicolor "Oakhill")
This is a new cultivar in the making. These seedlings are still very young and have not yet developed their true appearance. Once they reach the adult flowering stage, the selected Gasterias will be cross-pollinated with selected specimens to (hopefully) produce the end result. Once I am happy with the look of the plant, it will be propagated by means of micro-propagation and registered as a cultivar to which Melobotanics will get the only breeding and propagation rights.

Day 03/100: Dree Esquire Day 04/100: J.O.E.
Left: (Gasteria rawlinsonii × glomerata) X (G. Bicolor "Oakhill")
Right: Seed parent (G. Bicolor "Oakhill")
Gasteria seedlings already adopting the leaf patterns of the seed parent. 8 months old and still thriving. During this period, proper care has to be taken because fungal activity increases tremendously.
To provide aeration for the plants, I've lifted the plastic covers and allowed the plants to slowly adjust to a more natural environment. Thus creating a hot and humid growing space perfect for fungal pathogens. Therefore, I usually use a strongly dilluted fungicide that contains the active ingredients of Sulfur and it seems to do the trick.

Gasteria bicolor "Oakhill"
Subect #2 in the hybridization experiment. I think the smooth texture and interesting colour variation would go great with the stacked growth of the "rawlinsonii" hybrid. Still need to decide which plant would act as the seed parent and which as the pollen parent - I have a few factors to consider.
Gasteria hybridization experiment: successful. Check my previous posts to see what I'm up to.
Following up on my Gasteria hybridization experiment. A lot has happened since then. Here is the seed harvested from my Gasteria Bicolor "Oakhill". The fresher your seeds when sowing them, the higher your germination rate.
