Rachel: “Ferdipoop made it out alive”
Siobhan: “I thought he might”
Siobhan: *goes to confront him, apparently without a backup plan, even though she clearly foresaw this eventuality*
Me: EXCUSE ME? HAVE YOU? EVEN? MET? SIOBHAN? SADLER?????
willwriteforruns replied to your post: it honestly makes me sick that, in every article...
I’m not surprised. S is the “bigger” character, and I knew most people would be reeling from that (as they should), and Gracie would be overshadowed. Very much the same as Susan’s overshadowed Ira because it wasn’t even clear he had died. I’m disgusted. Remember when Paul got an awesome character death? Man.
aha yeah like...there were people who didn’t even realize that ira had died until they saw his gravestone. there were folks who went that whole week following 5x06 not knowing that he was dead. [godiwishthatwereme.jpg]
but honestly...paul went out in an absolute blaze of fucking glory, the likes of which this show has never even attempted to match since! and i don’t resent paul for that at all! 3x06 made me bawl like a baby! i 100% blame the writers and whatever “wouldn’t it be cool if...” dartboard throw of a series outline J&G have been playing with for the past two seasons.
it’s just. she was terrified and sobbing and she was eighteen goddamn years old and.
i’m so tired and disgusted with this show, and i’m tired of being tired and disgusted with this show.
Honestly ob??? The whole plot of this episode had like zero point, like finding mk and going through the trouble of sneaking Kira out then.... Nothing. Mk is dead, killed in literally the worst way possible, and Rachel gets Kira anyway, like wtf??? Mk's death served no purpose, literally none. And after Sarah literally almost died trying to save Cosima only for her to tell her to leave, "rescuing" Kira from Rachel only to just give her over, and for what?? Sarah is trying her hardest to protect the people she loves but for some reason no one seems to care or appreciate the sacrifices she's making. And she's forced to look like a bad mother for not listening to her daughter, who she's trying to protect, and we have like 5 seconds of her crying after Kira leaves, like what kind of buffoonery is going on??? This show is a mess
Orphan Black: SEE WHO MAKES IT TO THE END. Me, tired of this systematic destruction of the show I love: You know what, you should be surprised I did, honestly. I didn't sign up to watch a bunch characters I don't give a fuck about return simply to become cannon fodder, but here we are.
ok so i’ve been thinking about 5x08 some more (bc apparently this is my life now) and i’ve decided that if ob wanted to have a long-term narrative arc in which sarah replaces siobhan as the matriarch of the pack, then fine, i would accept that, that would make sense to me. (i would still argue that there is a way to do that without killing siobhan, but ya know, no one asked me.) but the thing is, you (the showrunners/writers) would have had to drop at least a few breadcrumbs along the way, yeah? definitely throughout this season at least, and hopefully in at least one previous season as well. and to my knowledge that did not happen. (feel free to correct me if i missed something.) what happened instead was that we got very heavy-handed hints throughout 5x08 that siobhan would not survive the events of this episode. (siobhan telling sarah she has taught her everything she knows; writing what was clearly a goodbye letter to her family; assembling a bouquet of death flowers; going to felix’s party to get in one last good memory before she dies; probably other things i didn’t notice.) and i’ll be honest, i would have accepted those heavy-handed hints had they been done well and had the plot necessitated siobhan’s death. but that’s the thing. to me, the plot did not demand siobhan’s death. a showdown between siobhan and ferdinand? yeah sure, they’ve butted heads enough over the past 2ish seasons that a showdown makes sense. but one would think that on this “feminist” show, the outcome of a standoff between siobhan and ferdinand would have a satisfactory ending. that the epitome of motherly love and protection would triumph over the epitome of destructive patriarchal misogyny. but mutually assured destruction? ferdinand getting the jump on siobhan? siobhan giving up and allowing ferdinand to kill her? that seemed wildly out of character to me. siobhan deserved more than having that horrible, HORRIBLE, truly awful man kill her in her own home, her sanctuary. we, the audience, deserve more than having to watch that man, once again, get his knocks off as he kills yet another female character. and to have that death be nothing more than sensationalism and emotional manipulation. so anyway that’s my piece. not really sure how to wrap this rant up other than to say that i’ll probably carry this grudge for a while yet and if you feel as bitter about siobhan’s death as i do, you can come vent to me if you need to.
So that was...... underwhelming. Seriously, when I die, I want John and Graeme to carry my casket so they can let me down one more time.
I’m so glad on the 7th episode of 10 during the Final Trip *tm we are going to maybe actually get back to the premise of the show:
A group of female clones fighting against those who seek to control them.
Wow, guys, really so glad we’ve wasted 6 episodes on a monster with no actual point, a bunch of new characters who don’t fucking matter, old people drama, and killing a clone for Shock!Value!
