Aaand the babies
oh right. i remembered something. a realization i came to
y'know how with object shows. voice is not indicative of gender. and they somehow can tell. and there's even transgender characters and all.
it came to me.
fucking.
pheremones.
it pains me to say it! but you know how dogs can tell a lot about a dog they havent even directly encounter just by sniffing where they went. including traits such as. their sex.
yeahhhh unfortunately it may seem pheromones are a big thing for objects i'd assume? since it's the only indicator of sex we kinda have for these guys. and gender still seems to be about as big as it is for us humans. so. alas
i hc that objects dont have biological gender & they based gender roles & all that jazz off of voices or like some trait that only objects can sense idkkk man
OBJECTS IN HEAT
now that I've got your attention, read my completely sfw /srs thoughts on objects handling the sunny weather
Was walking under the sun and my hair got really hot and it made me wonder how would objects handle heat. Especially metal objects (I'm totally not biased because my wife is one). Remember the metal slides at summer? they burn. now imagine that's how your almost whole body feels...
In objectified it's said that bestial objects who are respawned in a different district might change their assigned animal to adapt to environment. Terminals can also cause nerve damage so organspace is affected. So I like to think that, for example, objects spawned in Ankh are more heat resistant than those from The Rings or Fort Blanket (who would be better at handling coldness. it's a problem for metal objects too!). Well, technically their metal parts get heated the same way, but it doesn't affect their system that much and they can function just fine in the weather that would give a middle ringer a heat stroke.
Oh wait. Food objects exist and don't ever melt. I guess not everything should make sense in the object show world... - that's something I'd never say. Objects are made of cells. Their edible parts are cells too. The cells are living and renewing, so when some liquid from the glass object is spilled or evaporated, the cells multiply to refill it. Objects who would melt, like ice cream, are cells too. It has cell structure, not actual ice cream structure, so it might feel and even taste like ice cream but not melt like one. Yay!
I could've said much more but I have to prepare for the math exam I have tomorrow that I barely understand because I was too busy thinking about object worldbuilding in class
BFDI biology…ough…the very upper echelons of object size
No object is treated equally with size. I’d say that’s a pretty apt statement. Objects in their ‘standard’ size already vary in height significantly, I mean just look at Golfball and Tennis Ball. Yeah.
Fig 1: Joyous balls
But what is the size limit to that? Well it’s hard to really say, for the most extreme in size can extend to cosmic levels of scalingy. Take for example, Black Hole.
And yeah this a blog about BH’s anatomy, I’m railroading things now because this has always been the case.
Anyways, let’s learn about Black Hole?
How big the black hole?
According to its biography on BFDI’s Official Character Guide, he is 20 solar masses. That gives him a Schwarzschild Radius of 59.08 km (36.71 miles). That’s ~1,397 blue whales if they were at their max length of 30.5 m. That’s a lot of whales.
Keep in mind this is Black Hole BEFORE he’s crushed down to an “infinitely smaller size” by Four.
Why did BH’s species get so big?
Assuming its ancestors had evolved to live in space (or were early offshoots of ancestors to all objects*), they simply evolved to get so big to avoid predation. And when your environment is literal space, there isn’t much limit on how much you can grow…besides the square cube law but ehhh.
As they gotten bigger the instability of their structure grew stronger. It would eventually reach a point where their bodies would collapse into a black hole itself due to all that mass. A cheap trick to avoid such a dead end was by abusing their organspace to heck and back, fitting in all systems in there.
Which gives a perfect segue to…
The inside of Black Hole
Fig 2: Yeah
Basically all of Black Hole externally is just that, a Black Hole. But at its centre is his singularity, the ‘core’ of his being. There it basically is the storage of all those organic systems tucked into organspace. That’s how he can talk and see and hear, although probably not well since his species is hard of hearing.
It actually does make sense as sound is hard to even hear, if at all, in space due to a lack of a medium, such as air, for sound to travel through. Black Hole’s ear would be heavily reduced and only is developed enough to hear other words being said.
His digestive system is probably hypotrophied in comparison to make up all that matter Black Holes love to consume. All to break down and yep yummy!
Anyways I’m going to sleep
WHYY did i only join the osc last year 🤬
i keep seeing discourse on object biology and worldbuilding from ~2023-4 🤬🤬 and it's so good but i can't ask them about it because who replies to 3yo comments omfg 🤬🤬🤬
does annyone else like object anatomy?
i am so autism abt it, every time i hear abt someone even merely mentioning it i jump n giggle and like i love it, i have a whole ass object world name iris ive made up and there's planets history, biological life evolution/biology plus object history, evolution, biology, anatomy, species, everything
oh please easeplease please i looove object speculative biology i love speculative biology oh god please
