BUITENLESWEEK 🌳🌲

I finally downloaded the ObsIdentify app!
ObsIdentify is an app that let's you identify plants, insects and animals and add the observations automaticly to your waarneming.nl/.be or observations.be/org account. These mostly volunteer run websites is one of the main databases to research biodiversity in Belgium and the Netherlands (waarneming. Is for dutch language parts, observations. Is for the French speaking!). Since the AI is based on years of previous observations and specialized in these areas, the recognition is really good and precise! It stores place and time, but your location is not shared publicky beyond in which communal area the thing was observed!
You can win badges, depending on how many observations and how many species you add and they do challenges! Like, if they want to monitor hedgehog populations they make a challenge for that or of some student is writing a paper on specific nesting types or sth they will also make a challenge to boost the observations.
My sister calls it pokemon go for nature nerds, which is incorrect sadly, because you can't battle other observations. (Y'all are lucky, my bombus terrestris bumblebee army would obliterate you!).
So if you live in Belgium/the Netherlands, please consider installing the app! If someone knows of similar initiatives outside of this app in other countries, please add/send to me!
